Here we go. Famitsu has calculated a list of the top five selling PS4 games in Japan, and the results probably won’t surprise you. Maybe they will!

The results are sales estimates dating from each game’s release to 21 August 2016.
5. Dark Souls III (release date 3/24/2016)
321,931 copies sold
4. Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Tree’s Woe and the Blight Below (2/26/2015)
329,934 copies sold
3. Call of Duty Black Ops III (11/6/2015)
356,468 copies sold
2. Knack* (2/22/2014)
400,888 copies sold
1. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (9/2/2015)
438,478 copies cold
*Originally a pack-in title sold with the PS4.
Famitsu also crunched the PS4’s domestic sales numbers and, from launch until August 21, estimates that Sony has sold 3,006,635 units in Japan.

Wow, the home console business really is on its death bed in Japan, isn’t it? Considering that only 7 years ago New Super Mario Wii sold close to 4-and-a-half MILLION copies in Japan alone…
But then again… If you look at the best-sellers in Japanese gaming history, a vast majority of them are on handhelds.
