EA hasn’t been shy about blatantly saying that they’re going to extend their big games across as many platforms as possible. The recent example Mass Effect Infiltrator on iOS — which links back to the console game via the mega-publisher’s Origin online service — shows how EA probably wants this kind of thing to work in the future. An example of how they don’t want things to work? Look no further than Dragon Age: Legends.
BioWare has been going back to the drawing board on Dragon Age III for a while now. Dragon Age II, as you may recall, received a mixed critical reception at best — I sure didn’t care for it though of course, not everyone hates the game including some thoughtful folks who work here.
It’s time to solve a mystery, or at least come up with a viable theory. Yesterday, executives mega-publisher Electronic Arts announces a bunch of financial numbers. They also say that they’ve delayed a “key game” from fiscal year 13 to fiscal year 14, which, for those who prefer to speak English, means they’ve delayed a “key game” from coming out by March 31, 2013 to some time after.
Some fine folks from BioWare held a Dragon Age panel at PAX East this weekend in which they emphatically did not talk about still-unannounced Dragon Age 3.
BioWare has been expanding their Dragon Age and Mass Effect story universes through comics and novels for several years. Now they’re branching out into animation projects, working with FUNimation to create a pair of anime features for later this year, Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker and Mass Effect: Paragon Lost.
In this Dailymotion video recently shared on the BioWare blog, we get a closer look at the production process and at what story Paragon Lost will be telling. It centres on James Vega, showing how he got to be where he eventually landed, at the side of the famous Commander Shepard.
The video also features a number of character and location sketches, showing that surprisingly, vorcha manage to look kind of cool in 2D. They confirm that the release of Paragon Lost is still the nebulous “fall 2012,” and that Dawn of the Seeker, following Dragon Age 2 character Cassandra Pentaghast, will be coming out May 29.

You know what would be awesome? A game that played like Dragon Age but featured locations and characters from George R.R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” series of books (now a major television series). Watching this combat trailer for Cyanide Studio’s Game of Thrones role-playing game, I’d say that dream might soon be a reality.
