WIN! Kotaku’s Big Pile Of Crap!

WIN! Kotaku’s Big Pile Of Crap!

Wanna see some of the crap we’re giving away to one lucky Kotaku reader? Let’s delve into the pile and take a look.

As you should know, we’re giving away a big pile of crap. I get sent loads of gaming swag throughout the year and, by December, my desk is cluttered with all sorts of crap. So, to clear it out, I’m giving it all away to the reader who provides the most consistently thoughtful, articulate, helpful and worthwhile comments on the site between now and the end of the year.[imgclear]

Of course, when I say “crap” I don’t really mean that. There’s plenty of cool stuff in the Pile of Crap. Stuff like this: not one but two Nintendo grocery bags, one with Mario and one with Donkey Kong; a PlayTV box for your PS3 TV watching needs; a Darksiders War figurine; a Wii Sports Resort inflatable beach ball; a pack of Wii Sports Resort postcards; and a whole bunch of Nintendo DS games (see if you can make out their titles). So, what do you think: cool or crap?

Oh, and stay tuned for more pics from the Pile of Crap this week.

  • This thing just keeps getting better and better – that darkstalkers fig must be mine!

what really is killing me, however, is that for the last few days of the comp i'm going to be away in (R)Adelaide with the GF spending time with her family… Looks like i'll be making some trips to the local library (if South Australians read – kidding!). Then again, lord knows i can't handle being away from Kotaku for more than a couple of hours… even now i'm posting when i should be working… go team!!

  • You know, before this I didn’t care (AS MUCH) about this compo, but seeing all these pictures (especially this one) makes me want to try and win this.
    I want that PlayTV box.

  • There are more prizes within this one competition than Tiger Woods has mistresses!

(Im trying to stick to a theme-a-day, today is Eldrick bashing day)

In all seriousness Im going to have to steal my little brothers DS if I win! Maybe Ill trade him that Donkey Kong bag!!! (Then steal it back later)

  • Behold the power of marketing!
Those brown paper 2K bags yesterday? Those were pretty exciting and desirable items by themselves, but it’s time to step up the game.
Make them grocery bags with Mario and Donkey Kong slapped on, and they’re totally even more awesome.

  • Wow…. I really am regretting going to Surfer’s Paradise.

Dave, I love this competition, and I love the prizes, and I love the method of entering… thanks for it, again.

Only question, though: I’m away from the morning of the 25th to sometime in January – that’s a whole week of being away from Kotaku. Does that pretty much decimate my chances?

  • “Sir, will you be using a plastic bag to hold all the 50 kilograms of bananas you’ve just bought, or will you be using your own bag?”

*Puts Donkey Kong bag on counter*

    • LOL

as much as i do love that comment, i’m not too sure of your chances of fitting 50kgs of banana’s into that bag… maybe Dave secretly has 2 bags?

      • Bag of Holding, Neverwinter Nights style. You know those crazy Japanese; if any nation can defy the laws of Physics and distort space, it’s them. Just imagine what they could do if they devoted their time to actual science instead of, say, breakdancing robots or The Simulations & Studies of Patterned Undergarments in Natural and Unnatural Environments: A Focus on the Level on Exposure.

Also, I vote Aran as competition winner just for that comment.

        • Lets face it, Japan can’t possibly start producing “endless storage” style bags. Think of the legal fiasco!

I mean, Felix the Cat had that patented YEARS ago and is pretty tight on sharing the details…

          • He may have Patented it, but Max the hyper-kinetic rabbity thing stole it. He is now the true owner of Hammerspace. By the way, best name for a game: MC Hammerspace.

  • I wouldn’t mind having the Darksiders figurine,Play TV and the Nintendo bags.

The rest of it I would give away to someone with a DS as I don’t have one. besides who on earth would want a Bratz game. That certainly can be classed as a big pile of crap.

I just have the feeling though that Mr. Wildgoose is going to save the best till last. Am I right?

Oh and what date does this competition finish? As I too am going to Adelaide for a few days.

  • The sheer amount of gaming paraphernalia that you receive David is astonishing, it’s no wonder that you need to do a clear out.

Personal highlights in this photo are the Darksiders: War figurine and the PlayTV unit. Though I am surprised that you don’t want any of the items that have bombarded your desk over the period.

I would have thought the PlayTV a shoe-in, that being said I’m not averse to you wanting to give it away.

    • It all really depends on the publisher… over 5 years ago now, I worked with a company that did customer support for alot of the game companies (EA, Activision, etc..), basically abit on the installing troubleshooting, also general game knowledge, etc…

One of the perks from the job was that we got sent copies of the games also, ours weren’t the review code though, but full retail versions… generally we would get multiple copies of games over various platforms. We had to at least keep a ‘master’ copy of the game for the catalogue, but any spares we would divide between the staff…

The overall point of the story, there is a chance that David HAS received multiples of certain products and has claimed some for himself… So alot of this will be leftovers and things that David and anyone else in the office isn’t interested in… :p

    • i would say generally a gamer – we fear the sun, let alone the risk of being in the sun, on a populated beach shirtless emitting a glow only albino skin can create

      • The sun? Is that the glowing ball of death “outside” that haunts my dreams?

Honestly, working for any sort of gaming publication must rank up there with “most awesome job ever”. I refuse to believe all the stories about long hours, deadlines and being forced to play Barbie’s Horse Riding Adventures for all eternity – look at all the stuff David gets! Tell me that it’s not worth it for a WiiSports Resort Beachball….

  • just read this comment. By the time you’ve read this bit i’ve nicked all the stuff from kotaku HQ. Thanks!

  • Those grocery bags I’d like. That Darksiders figurine’s pretty sweet as well, not bad for stuff that you accumulate throughout the year.

Just a question David – what other Darksiders swag did you get set, if any? I’m just interested to see how much swag there is for Darksiders.
