The Chinese government dictates what can and can’t be shown in overhead photographs. This is bad news for Google Maps, which continues to have run-ins with the Mainland. No worries, there is a solution. A beautiful one.
This is Baidu, a Sim City-style map site for China. An overhead view of the country is reproduced in game-like graphics, but with sensitive images removed. Like Google Maps, folks can get directions and check out the landscape — the pixelated landscape.
