Happy 20th Anniversary, Bungie, This Is Your Life

The folks at Bungie are celebrating 20 years of doing whatever it is Bungie does... make games, I think! Halo, Marathon, mystery projects for Activision and stuff. They've created a nearly one-hour long documentary about themselves, promising never-before-seen material.

They're calling it "O Brave New World". Official description: "...a feast of infotainment sure to satisfy even the most ravenous fans — a behind the scenes look at the turning points, the moments that made us Bungie. It's full of rare and never before seen footage, reflections from our best friends and biggest fans, and love for the community who made us who we are."

Creating a new IP after riding Halo for so long probably feels like a huge risk for these guys... but I wouldn't say they're all of a sudden back to being 'the underdog' or anything of the kind.

Halo has a plethora of fans, sure... but there are a ton of people who are "Bungie fans" and not just fans of green space armor and plasma swords. So even though it's a new IP they pretty much have a huge fanbase to build from already...

Nowhere near as risky as a true underdog studio coming up with a brand new IP and praying that it will sell enough to keep them from all being fired 2 weeks after their game ships. :-P
(though plenty of great devs get canned even when they deliver good/successful games...)
