It Sure Looks Like Capcom Is Working On Resident Evil 6

Today, Metro has dug up an older post from the horror site Rely on Horror in which Capcom's Masachika Kawata mentioned work on a new game in the series, theoretically Resident Evil 6. His statement was taken with a grain of salt, as well it should've been -- it was posted in Spanish and translated into the following:

" The series will see a complete renovation with the next entry on every level. But we can't forget about all the previous entries that have led to the creation of many possibilities for the franchise. I can't say if we're going to make it (Resident Evil 6) survival horror or a shooter, but I can say that it'll be totally different."

Today on Twitter, Milla Jovovich, longtime star of the Resident Evil feature films, posted this to Twitter:

Between the two mentions, it's certainly not enough to draw any solid conclusions, but it does seem as though Capcom is indeed working on a new Resident Evil game. Yes, the news that a big game company is working on a sequel to one of their most well-known franchises isn't exactly groundbreaking. But I for one am interested to see if they actually shake up the formula this time. I don't know about you, but when I read "complete renovation," I see "Moving while shooting."

A guy can dream…

Capcom likes money, of course they're making RE6

I just hope for some revitalisation into the series, something inventive like RE4 was...

I enjoyed RE4&5 quite thoroughly, and hope they can expand and refine them for RE6 - especially mercenaries mode.

Less bullets and more scenes that need a second pair of pants on-hand

I for one am hoping for a revert back to the old survival horror days and less 'Resident Third Person Shooter'

I'd settle for "Dead Space in an old mansion with a secret lab underneath it".

I found Resident Evil 5 endlessly entertaining, but Dead Space gave me the chills. "I'm sure there's something cool down that dark corridor but, oh man, do I HAVE to go down there?"

RE's never been anything but cheap closet scares... Never anything groundbreaking or amazing like - I know, I know, it's oversaid, but - Silent Hill 2, or everything from the Penumbra boys.

RE4 started the more ridiculous actioney B-movie style, and RE5 kicked it up a lot of notches while also refining it. It's something the series is actually GOOD at. If you want inventory management go get a job in retail or something. You'll get PAID for doing that shit that nobody else wants to do. RE should keep doing something it's actually good at.

For me, Dead Space kinda took over where Resident Evil left off.

Dead Space is one of my favourite franchises this generation, next to Uncharted, Gears of War and Assassin's Creed. Resident Evil 4 was brilliant for its time, but new things come along, and Capcom need to stay at the top of their game to compete with the new kids in town.

My dream is that Resident Evil will be rebooted as a truly 'Survival Horror' game... in a way that no game has actually been true to that description.

I'd like to start out in the middle of Raccoon City as chaos sets in. An open world with dynamic AI behavior for both survivors and the zombies. Weapon/ammo scarcity and decent stealth. You'd have to find safe places to rest/sleep and find sources of food. There would be survivors willing to help you but also others who are only interested in their own gain. As time progresses Umbrella troops and B.O.W.s show up and make things interesting... but the zombies remain a threat and don't just become cannon-fodder.
The object is to survive long enough to find a way out of the city. And it's not easy at all :-P

It will never see the light of day, but damn I love to dream don't I?

We all know it will be called, Resident Evil 6: Quicktime Events.

Also they probably said it was confidential so they don't make a similar plot in her shitty movies.
