Report: Prey 2 Studio Hasn’t Worked On The Game Since November

There’s a good reason Prey 2 has been delayed to 2013, as announced today. It’s because its development studio hasn’t worked on the game since November, according to an anonymous source speaking to Shacknews.

The reason for that? Human Head, the developer “was not happy with the terms its contract with [publisher] ZeniMax,” reports Shacknews, “and deliberately stopped work on the game in November so it could try to negotiate a more favourable deal.”

This is according to a Shacknews source who asked not to be identified. The source said some of the development team were laid off, and hoped to be rehired if the deal could be restructured. But ZeniMax stopped talking to Human Head in January, which is probably why rumours surfaced in March that the whole thing would be canceled.

Confronted by Shacknews, ZeniMax gave no additional comment beyond this morning’s statement that the game was delayed.

  • Damn. This was something I was really looking forward to.

I’d hate to see this get cancelled.

    • You were looking forward to the trailer. It’s like Dead Island, it won’t have anything to do with the final product.

      • Oh, great Lach of the Future, who has played Prey 2, tell us more! Have we cured our crippling addiction to fossil fuels yet? How many of us survived the apocalypse?

        • It’s not a bad shooter, it’s kind of like bulletstorm without the sliding. Nothing amazing though.

Still using fossil fuels, alternative energy lead to a small scale zombie apocalypse. Only killed like 1000 people across the globe, but it was still kinda annoying. Got to hit my neighbour with a shovel though.

      • No. I was looking forward to the game. The concept, the ideas, from what I’ve seen of it and the story.

Why would I be looking forward to the trailer? That’s been released already.

  • I hate it when developers and publishers get into a public fued and even if the end product is good, you still subconciously link it to the behind the scenes drama. (L.A. Noire comes to mind. :P)

  • Dammit, I’d hate to see this get canned over money disputes. It looked like something really fresh and different.

  • Shame. Prey had some interesting ideas but suffered from being a bit dull. Prey 2 had some interesting ideas behind it. A real shame to see an IP ressurected to go in a new direction only to get canned anyway.
