Watch Hotline Miami Destroy Your Childhood (And Just About Everything Else)

Hotline Miami is one of the most vicious, violent games in recent memory. This video by PulpitPower explores what would happen if we put Hotline Miami's savage protagonist in some old-school games (and a couple of newer ones, too!) The results are about as horrifying as you'd expect.

The worst part is, watching this, you think to yourself — hey, sure he's bashing Link's head in. But, I bet it would feel good to play!

Damn the ways you've made us all complicit, Hotline Miami. Damn the ways.

Its a game that looks like it was made 20 years ago. Seriously, it's nothing special in terms of violence and yes I understand the premise of the game.

There are at least 10 worse games I can think of off the top of my head. Postal 2 and its expansion, for one.

The violence is overrated big time.

The violence isn't what defines the game. The mechanics of the game are.

The violence losses most of it's attractiveness about half way through the game. Killing the same guy over and over again is only so appealing. What's pushing you through the whole game is how the game feels. The controls are super responsive, simple and appealing. And trying to master those controls into pure skill is the real fun about the game, Being able to completely combo clear a whole level of guys is very satisfying because you yourself are actually getting better at the game, not your character. Add on top of that very interesting and attractive retro appeal that not only takes it's inspiration from 80's-90's video games, but is also the setting, creates a very original look. Along with the music being a widely accepted as one of the best soundtracks in a video game. The violence doesn't define the game, it's merely a factor as the game would be just as enjoyable if you tuned the gore off.

And Half-life 2. What a rubbish game, all that shooting and violence. Why can't all Games be My Little Pony based?

"I understand the premise of the game."

      No, you really don't.
