The Coolest Video Games Set In Feudal Japan

It is always nice to see a video game set in the feudal, pre-industrial era of Japan. The Japanese countryside in general has a special, comforting atmosphere, and combining it with badass samurai warriors and political drama always has spectacular results. We have selected games that have these attributes and use them really well.

Ninja Princess

Onimusha: Walords

Yakuza Kenzan

Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes

Kunio Kun no Jidaigeki

Pocky & Rocky

Do you know any other great games set in feudal Japan? Tell us in the comments below.

I believe Sengoku Basara was called 'Devil Kings' in the west. I know that my copy of it was called that :)

Emperor: Rise of the middle kingdom (one of if not THE best SIM/RTS games ever)

Also, nice mention of pocky and rocky, took me months to finish that game.

Yes, but Emperor was set in China.

Damn.... well that just ruined my shit then :P

Doesn't change the fact that it's a damned good game, and part of it happening contemporaneously with their feudal neighbours across the pond.

Also, Pocky and Rocky was great!

Kengo Series... or Sword of the samurai PS2
Sword of the samurai PC 1988 - BEST GAME EVER IMO
    Blood will tell! PS2

I was going to say Jade Empire but then realised it was set in China.

Shinobido on PS2, and subsequently PSP and Vita.

    Legend of Kage on C64
And how is Shogun NOT on this list?

Technically Okami isn't set in 'Feudal' Japan, it's built off periods of Japanese mythologies.

    pokemon conquest

Genji anyone? That game even featured the classic Heian-clan war

    Brave Fencer Musashi?
    Muramasa: The Demon Blade?
