            You think that’s bad? I was trying to explain who Adam West is to someone, and was saying, “He’s from the really, really old batman TV series.”
            “Oh, the cartoon? I loved that! Who was Adam West in it?”
            “N… no, th– the live… live action show.”
            “The what?”

            The same day my little brother reported that he had jokingly and enthusiastically called, “Thunderbirds are GO!” to someone at work, who had no idea what he was talking about.

            A friend later sent me a SMS – some overheard public transport discussion:
            “Dave Grohl is OLD.”
            “Did you know he was in a band before Foo Fighters?”
            “No? I bet they’re kicking themselves for letting him go. Probably never amounted to anything.”

            Oh, oh, and my favourite. My brother asking a seemingly (and I guess technically) adult patient: “Year of birth?”
            “Uh, twenty ninety… uhh. I mean. Oops. Nineteen ninety-five.”
            “You’ve… never had to put ‘nineteen’ in front of a year in your entire life, have you?”
            “Not really. It’s like… last century, y’know?”

         I’m 30 and quit smoking 5 months ago. I still drink socially, but not to the extent I did five years ago. Not even close. I think my wedding was my last hurrah.

      In the same vein I read a tweet the other day that Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill are the same age now as Sir Alec Guiness was in the first Star Wars movie.

   The fact that I genuienly believe music was “better back in my day” – the 90s. I know in my brain that every old timer says that about every decade ever, but I still can’t get past it! Put the freakin’ drum machine down and play a freakin’ guitar god damnit!

      It’s funny you say because I often look back at the 90s as the decade that killed rock music. Seriously Grunge came along at the start and suffocated actual rock, U2 (one of the few rock bands to survive the previous decade) turned their schtick to Techno and by the end of the decade we were awash with such singer-songwriters as The Spice Girls, The Backstreet Boys and S Club 7

   The Harrison Ford fact is made easier when you realise he wasn’t young even when they made Star Wars. Without looking it up, he would have been, what, around 30? That’s got to make it easier.

      He would have been 34 in at the release in ’77, but proberly only 32 when they filmed it as it had a long post-production and was delayed for a summer release.

   the cicadas from my 20s are emerging again. Motley Crue did a 20 year Dr Feelgood anniversary tour a few years ago.

   Not a lot actually makes me feel old, social networking would have pissed me off in my 20s as well. It’s only realising how long ago something I liked came out that I makes me feel old.

    Watching franchises like TMNT, Transformers & He-Man hit the 25-30 year anniversary mark. Watching childhood icons turn 60-70-80 years old or even passing on. Generally watching your childhood grow old and die.

       That why they revived Transformers for the big screen, because the people who grew up with it were starting to have kids, therefore the toys were a good chance of success (judging by the fact that my eldest son owns more Transformers than I ever did I’d say they were successful, though it pisses me off Mattel can’t get it together to revive He-Man.)

       I fully expect some sort of massive Power Rangers reboot in a few years time for the same reasons.

          Mattel revived He-Man in 2002 with no success. Power Rangers returned last year with Power Rangers Samurai and continues with a “20th anniversary” season called Power Rangers Megaforce.

    You’re only as old as you feel. So if you keep ‘feeling’ old, then you’ll start to act like it. And then…

    But I’m 33. Everytime I see a photo of me on facebook I’m like “damn, wrinkles”.

    Also, Harrison Ford. I remember when he was the coolest guy on earth. Now he’s still cool, but obviously the years have mounted up. I’m always a bit freaked when I see him on tele now. How can that be Indiana Jones?

    I’ve got a load of grey hair, that’s never a good sign! (I’m 39).
    Also things like:
    Getting the original Space Lego (1978?), and Nintendo Game & Watch (Donkey Kong, still have it!)
    Getting my first computer in 1983 (C64) and playing Space Invaders in the late 70’s early 80’s.
    The proliferation of mobile devices, there was none of that when I was a kid and was even pretty rare at University (1992)
    I started playing with “The Web” in 94 using Netscape.
    Installing Slackware Linux using floppies in 93/94

    The fact that Playstation is now nearly 20 years old is considered retro by some. It was my third console dammit! The transition from 2D to 3D is something our newest members to the gaming club were not even alive to see.

    For me, its when I remembered that I have a copy of Ultima IV on my shelf and realised its actually older than my trainer at the gym.

    Fuck, he’s so young/sheltered he doesn’t even know what D&D is, not specific games using the ruleset but D&D as a whole.

    At a party with a young friend of mine from another workplace, and her even younger friends were there, and we were discussing seminal moments of gaming. I was explaining to one of them, “Oh man, and the revolutionary jump to storytelling within a FPS… the Half-Life Uplink demo. Do you remember that?”
    “Half-Life 2?”
    “No, Uplink. The demo that pretty much sold Half-Liiiohhhh. That’s right. It was out in the late 90s. You were probably like… a foetus.”

    Seriously, I don’t pay that much attention, but there’s always tis @markserrels lookin’ guy that seems obsessed with his age and because he’s just a year older than me, it’s very easy to do the math :p

    People who assume that people in their 40s automatically don’t like video games or anime (because only young people like those things, didn’t you know.)

    My niece, who is not only old enough to ask me for anime recommendations, but doesn’t care that some of the series she likes most are rated “M”. (Although to be fair, I recall watching Space: 1999 as a kid, which was rated Adults Only.)
