Get A Load Of Grand Theft Auto V's Collector's Edition

You didn't think Rockstar would release a new Grand Theft Auto game without doing it up right, did you? Come September 17 there'll be three ways to get your Grand Theft Auto V on — the $US59.99 regular version, a $US79.99 special edition, and the $US149.99 collector's edition. What's the return on your investment?

I've got enough clutter in my place, so I'll stick with the regular edition myself, but I can see the appeal of the lovely blueprint map in the special edition, and who doesn't love hats? People without heads, that's who. Here's what comes iside the big-money boxes:

The Grand Theft Auto V Special Edition includes:

  • Full retail copy of Grand Theft Auto V;
  • Collectible SteelBook with Exclusive Artwork - features custom colour and metallic treatments to bring out the detail of the Michael, Trevor and Franklin artwork created exclusively for this SteelBook;
  • Blueprint Map - exclusive, 21.5" x 26.75" map displays a blueprint view of Los Santos and Blaine County;
  • Special Ability Boost - Michael, Franklin and Trevor each have a unique special ability. With this boost, the special ability bar will generate 25% faster;
  • Stunt Plane Trials - single-player Stunt Plane Trials let players take on additional aerial challenges spread throughout Los Santos and Blaine County;
  • Bonus Outfits, Tattoos and More - Michael, Franklin and Trevor get bonus outfits in their wardrobes, character specific tattoos at tattoo parlors, and special deals from shopkeepers across Los Santos and Blaine County;
  • Additional Weapons - when visiting Ammunation stores in single-player, merchants will have special weapons in their inventory available for free: the Pistol .50, Bullpup Shotgun and melee Hammer.

The Grand Theft Auto V Collector's Edition includes the contents of Grand Theft Auto V Special Edition plus:

  • Grand Theft Auto V Security Deposit Bag with Logo Key - inspired by the heists in Grand Theft Auto V, this custom 10.75" x 8.5" money bag features a pop-up style lock and laser cut logo key to secure important items. The reverse side features a pressed Rockstar Games logo on the security mount with a framed ID window;
  • Grand Theft Auto V New Era 9FIFTY Snapback Cap - this exclusive New Era 9FIFTY cap features an embroidered Los Santos logo on the front, a stitched, black Rockstar Games logo on the wearer's left side, a Grand Theft Auto 'V' logo applique on the opposite side, and snapback closure for an adjustable fit;
  • Custom Characters for Grand Theft Auto Online - get classic Grand Theft Auto characters to use within the Grand Theft Auto Online Character Creation System;
  • Unique Vehicles and Garage Property - players will instantly receive a garage to store custom vehicles. In single-player, the garage will be stocked with the 1930's style Hotknife hotrod and the Carbon sports bike. In Grand Theft Auto Online, players will get the high-end Khamelion electric car.

Along with the preorders, everyone who preorders the game gets a blimp. Hooray for blimps!

Which version of Grand Theft Auto V will you be getting?

    So if the special edition is US $79, everyone in Aus gets the special edition, right? RIIIIGGGHHHT?

      pre-orders are up at EB.. $119... eb exclusive apparently...

        119 bucks is a total joke, what the package is it should be the 108 like they're already asking =/

    Still waiting to see if its coming to PC...

      I'm sure it will eventually, but it might be a long wait. I wouldn't be surprised it they release this for current gen consoles, and then after a long wait, release a more graphical impressive version on next gen consoles, and only then, after another long wait, release a PC version. I'd guess that would make them the most money.

    It's $79 in the US but I betcha that it'll be $100+ in Australia...

      been to eb games website yet? your right there

    Is the collector's edition available in Australia? Because when i went to ebgames website they only have the special edition. I WANT THE COLLECTOR'S EDITION!!!!!!!!

      I'd like to know this too...

      I want that Los Santos hat!

    where do you buy the Collector’s Edition?? I can only find the special edition for sale.

    Ive yet to find the collectors anywhere in Aus.
    Typical Kotaku US article.

    Isn't the Collector's Edition going to be available in Australia?

    EB don't have it listed. The only place I can find it is Gamestop (US) and it's 150 bucks, so if we did get it they'd probably price it at $180-$200AUD.

    That said.... me wanty.

      My eb just rang me to ask which version I wanted, I got the collectors $170

    definitely need news on the collector's edition fast before I make a decision

    i want the collectors edition, so if i have to ill import form over seas

      Same, oh boy is it tempting.

        i see the special is eb exclusive, i hope Jb hifi can score the collectors edition

    Meh. I'll go standard. The only part of the special editions that appeal to me are the bonus DLC items (weapons/cars), and if I really want I can probably just buy those for a few bucks.

    Hmm tossin up whether the collectors edition is worth it.. the hat is cool, but a security deposit bag? Would be awesome if it was a safety deposit lock box or somethin

    Collector's already sold out.. allocation was apparently very small and was covered by pre-exisiting preorders.

    shittiest preorder pack ever
    a poster, a hat and a laptop bag, thought they would of done something cooler live IV with the steel lock box and duffle bag

      For those prices, I agree. What a waste of dosh!

    Most Collector's editions are being allocated to existing pre-orders. Hope you pre-ordered yours!

    Hey all, JB does have the Collectors Edition but VERY limited quantities. My store only got a few on both consoles and they pretty much went to people that had all ready preordered the standard edtition. Give your local stores a call and there might be a chance they have a spare but it will be a slim one at that!

    Well at least the standard edition is only $99 pre-order from JB....I don't get EB's pricing sometimes...

    I would pre-order but I'll be overseas on release day....hmm...perhaps I'll grab the Collectors Edition while I'm in the US

      I can confirm that it will be $89 for the standard at JB :)

        I stand corrected...I got that price from their website like 20 minutes ago....

    $63 at aus game store

    FUCK ALL THESE GAME STORES, They gave the Collectors Edition offer to people who pre orderd the game back in 2011, they should have put it online, first come first serve, well None of them are getting my money, ill go pirate it instead

      How is that the games stores fault? You had a chance yourself to preorder back then but you didn't. You should be mad at the suppliers for not supplying more stock. Let's be honest here, you were probably always going to pirate it anyway.

        no, i was actually going to buy this for ps3, i buy alot of games but only ones that interest me, and Grand theft Auto V did interest me

        also, yes the suppliers should supply more, infact they should announce, give people a 2-4 weeks to get down and pre order it, then make enough for those people who pre ordered it before and during that time before the cut off date

        People who pre-ordered back then should've ended up with the standard edition since that was all that was available or known of at that time.

        Many of us were waiting for the special editions to be announced before pre-ordering.
        And now we've been jibbed.

          Well no because many people who pre-ordered back then did so under the assumption that there will be a C.E. announced. Anyone who pre-ordered at my store even asked that if one is announced, will they be entitled to upgrade. It's shit that they haven't supplied more but at the same time you could have thought ahead like others did.

            I agree with ezk.
            If places take pre-orders, and most top teir games these days do have SE/CE, you should be able to pre-order those. If I COULD have pre-ordered one of these CE previously , I would have. But no. They only version you could have pre-ordered is the standard.

              So why not preorder the standard edition anyway and ask them what happens in regards to any other versions that get announced at a later date? That's not that hard a thing to do is it? The people who had all ready pre ordered GTA V when the game was announced should definitely get priority, especially in instances like this where there is extremely limited amounts of stock.

                The whole point of pre-ordering really is to show an expression of interest. Enough people pre-order and you get things like special and collector editions.

                Who knows, maybe if everyone did pre-order instead ist and "wait and see", AU could have been given more collector's stock

                  I agree with you. Seeing that they are not as much interest in Australia they may have not give Australia as much stock as they could have.

            I did the same with Skyrim. They Refused to upgrade my pre order to the collectors i would have to RE pre order. So there was NO WAY i was doing that again.

              What was so hard about doing another pre order? It's not like you lose money or anything.

                I was going to lose my money. I was told i would have to buy 2 versions of the game or lose my pre order deposit, which was MORE than the minimum.
                EB had me by the short and curlies.

                  Well that's just crazy! They are basically stealing your money. A preorder deposit is YOUR money which you should be entitled to get back if you cancel the order.

      And just to add to that, First come first serve is what they did. The first people to preorder the game were the first to get served with the chance to get the C.E.

      Just buy the special edition and quit whinging.

        Special Edition sucks, ill just get the basic edition from Ozgameshop, not interested in multi-player, only single player

    I pre-ordered in October 2011 I had a phone call at 9:00am on the dot asking if I wanted to be upgraded to the collectors edition, if people wanted the collectors edition so bad they should have pre-ordered early like the rest of us who got the upgrade, quit your bitchin and deal with the fact that you missed out because of YOUR idiocy
