The lineup of games for this year’s EVO fighting game tournament were unveiled last week. There’ll be six games, and sadly, Smash Bros. is not one of them. Yet.
Despite a very public spat last year involving Nintendo and the tournament, which ultimately led to Smash Bros. Melee streaming becoming a massive success, Nintendo have told SRK “While we are engaged in preliminary discussions with Evo about their upcoming event in July, the potential role of any Nintendo software at this event is undetermined at this time.”
Oh Nintendo. Here are the six games that are confirmed:
- Ultra Street Fighter IV
- Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
- Killer Instinct
- Injustice: Gods Among Us
- King of Fighters XIII
- BlazBlue: Chrono Phantasma
EVO 2014 will go down in Las Vegas July 11-13.

I’m very curious with how Killer Instinct will work out. Based on previous circumstances…
The general response from the FGC is its a good game but light on content obviously and the player base is small because its xbone only. My experience with it is limited because i have only played like 12 or so hours at my mates place.
The only problem it will have is if double helix doesn’t return to finish season 2 or whatever they are calling the rest of the game. They recently got bought out by Amazon, so the games future is somewhat up in the air at this point.
No, what I meant was, that in previous Killer Instinct tournaments the 24 hour login still applied and they couldn’t finish. How will this go down at EVO?
Microsoft has confirmed that a different developer that they will announce soon will be working on season 2, alongside their ‘core KI team’ which features a few of the major players of development of season 1. Still super worrying for the future of the game, but it’s something at least.
Where’s Virtua Fighter 5?
No Mortal Kombat? That’s very interesting… To be honest, still glad to see Injustice and UMvC3 in the lineup. Killer Instinct is an awesome fighting game, and I really do hope that Double Helix does finish the job, or at least Rare picks it back up to finish. It is an AMAZING fighting game, but wish there was an offline ladder, and more characters. What’s there though is almost damn near perfect.
I’m super surprised to see BlazBlue in there, although not at all disappointed. High level BlazBlue can be absolutely fantastic to watch.
