Wow. Just wow. It was the vaguest haiku I’ve ever written for The Daily HaiTaku, but someone still managed to guess it correctly. Amazing.
So yeah, congrats to Brancha. Yesterday’s HaiTaku was No Mercy, probably the best wrestling game ever made, but with a pesky problem that used to constantly wipe save files. So frustrating.
Today’s haiku, surprise surprise, is from me! Come on everyone — time to send in some haikus!
Whoa, digitised speech
I think this might be a first
Have you got the stones?
This is HaiTaku. We write haikus about old video games and leave it you to guess what game we’re talking about. If you want to submit a Haiku feel free. Send it here!

Tales of Phantasia?
Woot! That’s the first time I’ve won a HaiTaku. I know it’s not cool to brag, but WOOHOO!
i still think i was robbed. It was obviously Biker mice from mars
I thought so as well at first but you guessed before me so I had to come up with something else.
Meteor Storm
Damn it B-ob! Was just about to post Meteor Storm, knowing Mark, this is the first ZX Spectrum game with digitised speech, and obviously stones feature heavily.
Haha, exactly my logic! Mark = ZX Spectrum.
Space Spartans?
That would have been my guess
Impossible Mission?
Day of the Tentacle?
Digitised speech on the CD version and you have to get diamonds to fix the time machine.
SiniStar?
The Simpsons: Bart vs the Space Mutants … remember heading Bart Simpsons saying “I’m Bart Simpson who the hell are you” through PC Speaker. Also, use rocks to attack the mutants.
I want to say Myth because it was the first one to do sampled speech to a really good standard rather than just being recognisable.
One of the earliest I can remember is Sea Dragon, but I don’t see how that would satisfy the stones clue.
I am going with my yesterday’s guess again – Ultima 7!
Digitised speech in the intro and one of the main tunes is called “Stones”.
What is it about these things that lead people to keep guessing the same game?
Psygnosis’ Barbarian?
