New Godzilla Trailer Shows A Lot Of Godzilla

Up until now it felt as though the strategy with regards to the new Godzilla movie was to avoid showing the monster itself, to build that air of mystery. I liked that. The new Asian trailer goes against that grain and actually shows a fair amount of Godzilla totally wrecking shit. That may or may not float your boat, but my fancy has been tickled. This movie looks great.

Also — I wasn't aware that other Godzilla monsters would be making an appearance. I don't consider myself up on the lore of Godzilla, but was that Mothra at the end there?

As awesome as this trailer is, I really do hope they show a bit of restraint. I like the idea of building up to something. I already saw Pacific Rim. I don't necessarily need to see another movie where big giant monsters wreck shit constantly.

Ah what the hell. I don't really care. Just make it good.

    Looks like Rodan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rodan

This is gonna be so awesome :D Love that we finally get good shots of the other two Muto's in this too! :D

@markserrels at first I thought it was Mothra or Rodan, but according to Legendary they didn't have the rights to use any of Godzillas back catalogue at this point. But in future we're likely to see reimaginings of other monsters in further sequels :D

Ones a praying Mantis style one by way of the Cloverfield monster (saw it in some leaked footage) and the other as we saw, is some sort of pterodactyl flying one.

I already saw Pacific Rift. I don’t necessarily need to see another movie where big giant monsters wreck shit constantly

I do actually need to see movies like that all the time.

Oh, and I think it was Pacific Rim :P

unfortunately not, Legendary only have the rights to Godzilla, not to any of the other Kaiju's... Any other Kaiju in this flick are brand new due to this restriction.

There was definitely some large object flying which was most definitely not Godzilla though. Be interesting to find out what.

Looks closer to Rodan than Mothra, but as others have mentioned they only have the rights to the Big G.

It's Senor Rodano, the non-union Mexican equivalent of Rodan.

Apparently Toho are open to their monsters appearing in subsequent sequels, however they want to see the Americans actually do a respectful job first after the shitfest that was the 90s Godzilla. Only then will they approve any other Kaiju rights to Legendary. They apparently weren't happy especially after Emmerich went around telling everyone they had 'given him their blessing' when they had done anything but.

    I already saw Pacific Rift.

I think you mean Pacific Rim.

OT, I'm super excited for the new Godzilla, especially because Bryan Cranston's in it.

Also, on a semi-related note, apparently Guillermo Del Toro has expressed interest in making a Pacific Rim/Godzilla crossover movie.

No no no, leave it as Pacific Rift :) Love that game!

      Pacific Rim/Godzilla crossover movie

      All of my yes.

Del Toro has actually expressed a desire to create this cross over movie. In an interview some time after PR released.

If ANYONE makes that movie, it needs to be Del Toro.

Yeah but unfortunately the Big G would tear all the Jaegers apart with his nuclear breath :D

Screw the Jaegers. Gojira strapping a nuke to his leg and going in solo to close the rift. Hell yes.

See, I've had the opposite thoughts on the marketing campaign for this movie. I thought they were only half-heartedly hiding Godzilla, and fully concealing his opponents. I liked that.

Let's face it, the Big G's the reason we're showing at the moviehouse, and I love that they didn't mess with his design that much. You look at this beast and you say "that's Godzilla!", something I never really said about the '98 mess.

Hmm, it's starting to look a lot like 'disaster movie' or 'end of the world porn'. I'm not saying that's not what Godzilla is about but it just reminds me a bit of how modern horror started to become 'torture porn' and that Aliens vs. Predator become a gore flick, and that worries me. This movie looks good but I'm concerned that half-way through I'm going to be all "I get it! Godzilla's big and we're all fucked!"

Looks just like my mother-in-law, except not bitter...
