Kojima Productions, apparently, is no more. The studio started by Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima has been “dissolved”, says Snake’s Japanese voice actor. The box art for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain does not read “Kojima Productions”. It does read Konami.
On Taiwan’s Gamer forums, a member named Gtaaaaa decided to change that. Gtaaaaa printed up Kojima Production stickers and used them to cover up all the Konami logos. This is somewhat similar to the fans who have been printing out new slipcovers that read “A Hideo Kojima Game.” Here, however, Gtaaaaa wanted to make sure his phyiscal copy of The Phantom Pain was Konami logo free.

So, for example, here is the game’s unaltered Japanese box art. Note the Konami logo in the upper corner.
Here is how Gtaaaaa changed it.
And so on.
Let’s get a closer look.
I see the Konami URL did not get covered up! Maybe web addresses are ok?
The Konami logo on the disc sure did.
Think he covers his eyes when the Konami logo flashes on screen?

Awesome box art: The way it should be.
Surely I’m not the only one that’s tired of seeing this kind of thing? Yes, we get the point… Can we move on?
Agree, I dont get the point of this either
Although hate to be him when his shitty quality transfer comes off inside his bluray player and fucks his PS4…
NO! This is the final legacy of this game and there will be no forgetting!
It’s not like his name isn’t visible anywhere in the game though. Sure, it was a bit of a dick move on Konami’s part, but many studios do a lot worse when it comes to attribution of people’s work (e.g. only listing the names of the people who worked for the company when the game was completed).
Honestly I’m kind of shocked just how often his name is shoe horned into the game… It’s actually a little ridiculous and makes me pretty apathetic about it not having his studio on the box.
I mean I was half-joking…
and yeah there’s plenty of examples of poor attribution in this industry. I suppose in this case it’s bit different, as his name was already there and then removed from the final marketing materials, and as such makes the mis-attribution heinous. Not only that but it’s a rare instance of having a fandom that actually appreciates the auteur message.
What about those small prints on the bottom that says (c)2015 Konami Digital Entertainment?
Ok we get it. Angry nerds are (Understandably) Angry at Konami. They think that by changing the box art and posting it online they are making some sort of statement to Konami about what they think (Hint: You’re really not doing anything).
Here’s an idea. If you Upset by this shitty companies Shitty practices how about don’t buy the game and give them your money?
That’s a statement Konami will actually hear.
