On Wednesday, a report surfaced that another entry in the Godzilla series was announced at the Shin Godzilla vs. Evangelion Symphony in Tokyo. Yesterday, Anno’s studio, Khara Inc., cleared up the confusion that ensued.

As Madman points out, the following text appeared on the screen at the event: 「ゴジラ」シリーズの次回作及び「シン・エヴァンゲリオン劇場版:||」にご期待ください。(“Please look forward to the next entry in the Godzilla series as well as Evangelion: 3.0+1.0“). Multiple sites ended up reporting that a sequel to Anno’s film was coming.
You can see how people might make that mistake. So, to clear things up, Khara sent out the following tweet:
また、一部で誤解が生じているようですが「次回の『ゴジラ』シリーズ」とは「アニメのゴジラやハリウッド版のタイトル等」を指しており、庵野秀明が『シン・ゴジラ』の続編を手掛けるということではございません。 #シンゴジラ #シン・ゴジラ #ゴジエヴァ交響楽

Which explains that the next entry in the Godzilla series means the upcoming anime Godzilla film, the next Hollywood version, and the like. “It did not mean a sequel to Hideaki Anno’s Shin Godzilla.” (Internationally, that film was released as Godzilla Resurgence.)
But, hey, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0! There’s that.
