Sweet Christmas, Marvel Is Bringing Back Digital Redeem Codes

Earlier this year, Marvel made the sudden decision to stop including free downloads of digital copies of single issues with physical issues of its books. Thankfully, the publisher has since had a (correct) change of heart.

Whereas before, you could punch in a code and instantly read the latest issue of Scarlet Witch both on your iPad or by picking up the physical comic, Marvel instead decided that it would be better if you got a random book of its choosing. The idea, one imagines, was to get readers exposed to and interested in buying new series, but the move came at the cost of forcing readers to either buy the comic they wanted twice or to choose between digital and analogue. Now, though, with its Secret Empire event just around the corner, it seems as if Marvel heard from enough of its fanbase to realise that people really like being able have their cake and eat it too.

“We heard how folks across the world were using them, relying on them, loving them,” David Gabriel, SVP Sales & Marketing, said in a press release. “We are always looking to do what’s best for fans and the comics industry so we’re pleased to make this program even better.”

Even better — Marvel’s still including that random bonus comic from before, just in case, you know, you wanted to give it a try or something.
