As far as animated food goes, Studio Ghibli’s looks delicious. Now at the Ghibli Museum, there is an official exhibition depicting recreations of the studio’s eats.
The exhibit is called “Delicious! Animating Memorable Meals” in English (in Japanese, it’s “Taberu wo Kaku” or 食べるを描く, which is “Drawing Eating”). It began this weekend and runs until sometime in May 2018.

The exhibit doesn’t only feature food recreations, but shows how the meals were designed as well as how characters eat. From the museum’s official site:
Food that is still warm, that looks soft and tender, with the wonderful flavour showing on the faces of those eating them – these scenes of meals are appealing and charming. No dialogue is needed to convey deliciousness and happiness.
This exhibition introduces how food can be drawn to appear even more delectable than the real thing, creating scenes of joy.
Via Cinema Cafe and Natalie, just look at how carefully this food was plotted.

For example, there’s so much variety in how characters hold chopsticks — whether that’s correctly or incorrectly.

These are all plastic food recreations, but they still look good! (Photos are from Crank In, Natalie, Fashion Press and Gunosy.)

Checking out an exhibit like this will no doubt case folks to work up an appetite. You’ll definitely want to order some food in the Ghibli Museum restaurant.

Good job kotaku. I just ate my monitor.
That last photo. Catbus cup and a Kiki’s mini cake. Dang.
I loved the museum, one of the most beautiful/whimsical places I’ve ever been in. The almost-life size catbus pillow would have been all mine if it weren’t for the kids climbing all over it. And I’m still dreaming (many years later) about finding and getting the special Ghibli Breitling watch.
Mad jelly. I just visited Japan for the first time last month and it was very much a last minute trip so I was unable to get a hold of tickets for the museum. Crushed. I had an incredible time anyway and I’ll definitely be back but the museum is a must-see before I die.
So… Hungry… I LOVE anime food! Food wars, that discount bento fighting one. Final Fantasy XV!!
Most importantly – does it have the sugar cubes from Arrietty?
