The Next Anime Godzilla Movie Is Going To Bring In Godzilla’s Giant Robot Doppelganger

Godzilla’s first ever anime movie, Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters, may have only just debuted in Japanese cinemas. But we already have some details about what’s in store for the follow-up, and what it is is giant robots. Specifically, one very delightful giant robot in the form of Mechagodzilla.

Following Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters‘ theatrical debut, the movie’s official website updated to release the first details about the next movie in the trilogy, Godzilla: Kessen Kidō Zōshoku Toshi, or Godzilla: The City Mechanised for the Final Battle. In past Godzilla films, Mechagodzilla was a weapon built by humanity to fight back against the threat of the King of all Kaiju, because when in apocalyptic doubt, you build a giant goddamn robot. Given that Monster Planet is all about the future remnants of humanity fighting to take back Earth from Godzilla and his hordes, the Mecha’s presence in the sequel isn’t too surprising, but a delight nonetheless.

Godzilla: The City Mechanised for the Final Battle is set to hit Japanese theatres in May 2018. Meanwhile, Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters is still expected to hit worldwide Netflix services outside of Japan.
