The Intellivision Console Is Getting A Remaster

The Intellivision Console Is Getting A Remaster

We’ve had the Mini NES, Mini SNES, a PlayStation Classic is on the way, remakes of the Commodore 64 and Amiga. Now you can add the Intellivision to the list, following the reveal of the Intellivision Amico.

Due out in October 2020 to mark the 40th anniversary of the original Intellivision, the Amico is being pitched as a family-friendly console. It was announced at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo – which hosted the Classic Tetris World Championships – and will be priced between $US149 and $US179 when it launches internationally.

The console will ship with two wireless bluetooth controllers, each sporting a 3.5″ colour touchscreen, four feedback buttons, accelerometer and gyroscope, Qi wireless charging, a speaker, microphone, and force feedback. Mobile phones can be used as controllers for the Intellivision Amico through a proposed free app, and the console itself will have “several built-in reimagined Intellivision Classics” pre-installed.

The full list of games targeted for launch include:

The huge pitch the Amico is that it’s a family friendly console. “Most every [sic] game being made for the home consoles these days is created with only the hardcore gamer in mind,” Tommy Tallarico, president of Intellivision, said in a release. Nintendo’s included in that group as well, although any new console that doesn’t have Pokemon, Fortnite or Minecraft on it might be a real hard sell.

The console itself will also have extra USB ports, HDMI out, Wi-Fi, RGB lighting and tournament modes for certain games. You can find out more on the official site.
