Wear contacts? Don’t want to stick your fingers in your eyes? A Japanese company has created a contraption called “Meruru.” In short, you are looking at contact lens tweezers.
You don’t have to use your fingers to remove your lens, but you can use this silicone set, which seems slightly scary.
According to the company, Meruru was actually inspired by survivors of the 2011 Japanese earthquake and tsunami, who wore contacts but, because of the power outages, couldn’t wash their hands. (I guess people with very long fingernails would be another target consumer? Or people who have difficulty with putting in contacts?)
The company claims it spent three years of trial and error to develop Meruru forceps and little shovel to scoop out your lenses, creating numerous prototypes and test versions. The final product costs around $US20, and the company claims this is the world’s first product of this sort.

“Kotaku East is your slice of Asian internet culture, bringing you the latest talking points from Japan, Korea, China and beyond.”
Kotaku has always had articles on Japanese culture, it’s not going to change. Don’t click them if you’re not interested in reading them, it’s not hard.
I normally don’t, but this one was so far away from being gaming news, I felt it necessary to point out that this is a gaming news website. It is not Bashcrafts personal blog. Maybe his skills would be better utilised over at Popsugar?
Yes, I noticed. Still not an excuse to post random Japanese pop culture facts on a gaming news website.
It’s not that it has a tremendous effect on my day, it’s just mildly annoying.
You’re right, it is not an excuse, it is the objective of Kotaku East. What part of that does not make clear sense though? It doesn’t say gaming, and Kotaku have been doing this for years.
Go to “kotaku.com.au” look at the top. What does it say? That’s right, it says exactly what I stated in my original comment.
Haha, that is your retort, The URL, the .au? You’re further gone than I originally thought. Well continue to truck along my narrow minded knat. I hope a life of ignorance is blissful.
Plus cosplay is a big part of gaming culture and is featured often on Kotaku. Contact lenses are a big part of cosplay.
I dont mind non gaming news, but Ashcrafts articles are very annoying. Its like he has a fetish for ANYTHING japanese.
If this were an American company, with Caucasian lady, it wouldnt be posted here.
This is stupid. Just use your finger.
Its another pointless instrument use to stick in your eye which you have to clean and maintain.
Every time on of these articles comes up I am reminded of http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/comicsandcosplay/comics/critical-miss/9818-The-Anonymous-Source
So they can’t wash their hands but they can wash a bit of plastic?
This just seems like an unnecessary risk to your eyes. Sure it’s just a bit of plastic, but if you miss the contact when you’re trying to take it out (you’d have less tactile control then with just a finger) you can damage your eye quite easily.
Also I just realised, if my contacts irritate me during the day I can adjuste them, people with this would always need to carry it 24/7 lol
