What you’re looking at here is not an 8K resolution screenshot of Mass Effect 3. It’s one-sixteenth of an 8K resolution Mass Effect 3 screenshot.
Go ahead and expand that top image. It’s a full 1920 x 1080, or what we’ve been calling full HD for several years now. 8K resolution is 7680 x 4320 — 16 times the number of pixels.
Here’s the full picture, capped by Redditor DarkLiberator. For the full effect, right click the image, choose open in a new window or tab, and then expand it to full size.
See the choice ring at the bottom of the screen? It’s ok, I didn’t either at first.
According to DarkLiberator, the game’s framerate was pretty much unplayable at this resolution, so don’t expect me to start building an 8K gaming machine any time soon. Thankfully he’s compiled a 64 image gallery on Flickr (you’ll want to download the full-size images) so I don’t have to worry about it.

Beastly for sure, just don’t see the point when the textures look poor
If it makes a PC weep, imagine what it would do to a console…
Petrol… match… you be the judge!
still seeing jaggies in that lower image?
i would have thought no AA needed @ 8k!
Would you be able to see jaggies if you were sitting far enough away to comfortably see the entire image, or had a high enough resolution to view it at your current distance? That’s the real test.
Being able to see jaggies with a magnifying glass isn’t really relevant.
i think you’re seeing jaggies coz not because of your image, but because of your monitor. even it’s an 8k image, you’d still be seeing it in a lower rez screen.
unless of course you’re viewing it through an 8k display, in which case, i don’t know.
Seems a bit pointless posting 8k screenshots if we don’t have 8k monitors to look at them on.
shouldn’t it be called 16k?
The 4K and 8K names come from film, where they usually talk about width (e.g. 35 mm film). The screenshot is ~ 8000 pixels wide (not quite, but close enough for them to call it 8K).
Thanks for destroying my poor iPad
Yea ill pass on 8k dont need to crunch my comp to make a game look a lil less crap.
An 8k jpeg image?
Should this not be a png of tiff so we don’t loose quality.
That tiny dialogue wheel.
i didn’t even notice that!
Pretty cool
8k image… with huge, visible polygons. Makes sense.
Until we all have 256gbs of ram on our gfx cards for textures that don’t suck – these resolutions are pointless.
