I think it’s fairly clear at this point that Bioshock Vita isn’t happening. Irrational’s gone and it’s been vapourware since the 2011 announcement. That’s not stopped Ken Levine tweeting about what could have been though, teasing a turn based ” Final Fantasy Tactics style” game that would “work well on the Vita”.
It certainly sounds a hell of a lot more interesting than just trying to squeeze a tiny FPS out of Sony’s machine. Here’s what Levine said:
on the Vita game: 2k and sony couldn’t put a deal together when I last checked. They seemed way more optimistic about this back in 2011.

RT @chaddukes: @IGLevine what you had in mind for that game? –I was thinking a Final Fantasy Tactics style thing set in pre-fall Rapture.

something that would work well on the vita and not be a compromise in any way. also, as some know, i’m a turn based whore.

Wish I could do it myself, but lawyers and all that. I still love my vita.

What do you think? I’d have loved to see a different style of game set in the Bioshock universe. I’m all for a Rapture style expansion DLC in Civilisation 5. There was this lovely isometric Bioshock mock up a while back.

One response to “I Would Have Played Bioshock Tactics So Hard”
People love to talk about turn-based action, but Bioshock is principally a narrative universe. I think a true free-roam, semi-linear story would have really fleshed out the world. It would allow players to explore and unravel the world at their own pace (yay for player agency!) and at the same time allowed the creators to build in all sorts of smaller elements.
I think… I think I love you, Ken.
