I finally got around to watching Knights of Sidonia the other day, and I loved it. From the genderless pilots to the amazing world design to the fact there’s a giant bear walking around and nobody gives a shit. I also loved the mechs, which were unique enough to stand out while still being (relatively) practical.
Which would normally mean a hunt for expensive and fragile Japanese figures/model kits, but you know what, this Tsugumori paintjob by kuma32 is so perfect (here’s the blank one for reference) I’m not going to bother. I might just print these off and stick them behind my shelf.
I mean, look at the wear and tear he’s able to manage. The scratches and scrapes on pretty much everything in the show is one of its defining visual traits, and he’s absolutely nailed it here.

I really need to get in and finish my backlog so I can justify looking at one of these kits. Not to mention practice the hell out of my weathering.
look at its little ankles…clearly the weak spot!
in space no one can hear your ankles.
I was surprised how much I enjoyed this series. It all comes down to the interesting ideas they had which everyone else points out too. Genderless people who can become whats needed for the society to continue, realistic things that would make everyday life dangerous like inertia and the whole genetically engineered photosynthesis(which was my favourite idea).
Cant wait for S2 to come out!
