There has been an awakening. Have you felt it? The dark side… and the light… of Skylanders. Having teased players since the game’s October release, Activision finally reveals the two new elements being added to the Skylanders universe starting December 21.
Since October 2 players have been banging their heads against the unknown element gates and cursing the unknown element bosses in Skylanders: Trap Team. This is because Activision and Toys For Bob for some reason decided to introduce two new elements to the series original eight — Fire, Water, Air, Earth, Life, Tech, Undead and Magic — as physical downloadable content, rather than introduce them when the latest game launched.
Light and Dark were what fans were expecting (some were thinking Sun and Moon), and Light and Dark is what we’re getting on December 21 via a pair of Elemental Quest Packs, each featuring a larger Trap Master figure, a corresponding trap for capturing similarly-aligned in-game villains and an adventure piece which unlocks a new level in the game. These levels will feature new captureable villains, making the two $US29.99 packs essential for players looking to complete their enemy collection.
On the Light side we’ve got the Light Elemental Expansion Pack. It includes the Sunscraper Spire adventure level, a lovely crystal bird trap and Knight Light, a majestic bird warrior wielding a crystal Traptanium sword.
In Darkness we have, of course, the Dark Element Expansion Pack. It contains the Midnight Museum adventure, a black translucent spider trap and Knight Mare (sensing a theme), a centaur wielding a black bastard sword.
Both sides will also introduce new regular-sized Skylanders figures, the dragons Spotlight and Blackout, who look like something Bayonetta would waste no time dispatching.
By releasing these new Light and Dark figures on December 21 at Toys’R’Us, Activision ensures one final pre-Christmas run to the toy store for hundreds of thousands of parents across the country, the jerks.
Bonus Gallery: Hey kids, show your parents these screenshots of what the new toys look like in the game until they never want to see another screenshot again!

So if I bought Trap Team, Would all the elements for the new game be readily available?
I’m still missing a bunch of Swap Force characters I need to be able to 100% that game. By the time I had the disposable income to get them, I went hunting and all I found was freakin’ Trap Team figures.
I believe that there is still no Magic trap master available, apart from the light and dark elements.
If you go to big w or kmart you can still find swap force characters… or just find a friend to borrow them off to clear the levels you need (but that is nowhere near as good….
Those look pretty rad.
Hi Mike, which Toys R Us has it in stock now ? My son thinks he is getting it from Santa, but they do not have them in Penrith or Blue Mts stores. Where can I find it please ?? Thanks !
They aren’t out in Australia until the 26th @ EB Games, Target and Big W

Are they ever likely to be out for their original retail of $34 again or is this another ‘rare issue’ that you’ll always be paying top dollar for if you want them?
