I haven’t seen Jupiter Ascending. I’ve only seen its concept art. I’m guessing it’s a movie about “holy shit what is happening there are space things and what”.
We’ve seen some art from the movie before, but today we’re looking at the contributions of Adam Kuczek, an artist who has also worked on stuff like Cloud Atlas.
What’s great about the images below, all from production on JA, is how so many of them are so early, breaking down the processes and workings of gear with rough sketches, which is often the most interesting thing about looking at concept art.
You can see more of Adam’s work at his personal site.

There are many issues with Jupiter Ascending but it was probably the most beautiful movie I’ve seen in a long time. The fact that it’s an entirely new IP was also appreciated.
26% on Rotten Tomatoes, that’s brutal. How bad was it?
Really bad. It’s got more plot holes than a block of Swiss cheese and double the face palms of a speech by Tony Abbott.
I liked it, it’s just not particularly unique. There was very little world-building so it really was just incomprehensible alien shit all over the place, but it was very visually appealing regardless. Lots’ of crazy ship things and sweet gravity boot things on Channing Tatum. I don’t know that I’d recommend spending money on it if you don’t love sci fi, but I don’t regret doing so.
It’s not horrible, I wouldn’t even say it’s ‘bad.’ Derivative, predictable and questionably written, like most sci-fi. The terrible RT reviews, I think, are indicative of something FSR highlighted recently with their Chappie article. Neil Blonkamp and the Wachowskis exploded onto the scene with bold sci-fi movies and became slaves to their distinctive debuts (and harshly critiqued because of them). If you like sci-fi, you’d probably enjoy Jupiter Ascending quite a bit.
I was very happy with JA. It’s the most extravagant Space Opera film that’s ever been made, and reminded me of all the great sci-fi books I’ve read (Peter F. Hamilton in particular). People have been writing stories like this movie for a long long time, but they’ve always been considered ‘unfilmable’. Jupiter Ascending is a step towards getting more grand sci fi films, and I hope this apparent flop won’t impact that too badly in the future.
I love those space ship designs
I loved it. Fuck the harsh reviews.
