Techland has decided to put its first-person dungeon crawler, Hellraid, on hold. The game was supposed to be released later this year, but the Dying Light developer wants to send it back to the drawing board.”
Here’s the company’s full statement:
Dear Hellraid fans,
We would like to officially announce that our dark fantasy FPP game Hellraid will not be released this year as previously planned, and the development of the game has been put on hold.
In the recent months we conducted an internal analysis and came to the conclusion that Hellraid, in its current shape and form, is not meeting our own expectations for this project. Therefore, we decided the best course of action would be to send it back to the drawing board and invent our dark fantasy title anew.
In the meantime, we will consolidate our development resources and focus on further expansion of our Dying Light franchise.
We wish to thank all our fans for your support — you’re the best!
It looked pretty cool when I saw it back at E3, but perhaps the success of Dying Light has the company raising its own expectations. That’s not a bad thing! [Techland]

Acceptable reasoning. Better to stop production on mediocrity and call it for what it is than slog ththrough production and hoist it upon us under false pretences.
Shame the clip looks really cool.
I was pumped for Dead Island: Swords ‘n’ Sh*t!!! :(:(
I wish more developers would take this attitude. I would rather wait 12 months and play a great game than get a half-finished shitfest right now (looking at you, EA).
if they polish it more that can only be a good thing.
Or even cancel it for being subpar honestly
agreed
Shame I liked the look of this. Hopefully their excuse is legit and not just a money thing to pump more resources into Dying Light so they can milk that cash cow to death first.
Finally, was wondering when someone would look past the marketing language and see what they are actually doing. Specifically, the Dying Light franchise is where they are putting their resources.
Hopefully its just pushed back to be polished and refined and not totally cancelled. The game looks awesome and i was really pumped for it :/
i dont think its been cancelled, my guess is that they sure how great dying light went with its open world and found that linear map system that they were using for hellraid just wasnt as good. either that or they just too busy playing the witcher 3 to see what they could steal 😛 for hellraid
Personally I want a FPS diablo style game in a fantasy setting like borderlands only with swords, axes and magic instead of guns
