Ark: Survival Evolved is one of the biggest games on Steam. It’s also still in Early Access. Most importantly, though, it has dinosaurs. And poop.
Ark‘s definitely not done yet, but it already has more than 40,000 Steam reviews. They’re mostly positive, with a not insubstantial number of negatives dinging the game for too much grinding, longtime performance issues (even on some high-end PCs), and the alleged presence of hackers on servers. The best reviews, though, are the ones that tell a story, and boy do Ark players ever have some good material to work with.
You can find more Ark reviews here, or you can go here to check out other installments of our “As Told By Steam Reviews” series.

I would love to get into ark but the dino taming times scare me, and you can lose it all over night 🙁
There are plenty of PVE servers, BUT I highly recommend spending the time to find a locally hosted server on the unofficial searches. The official servers are normally full and laggy.
Also most servers offer boosted rates on taming/exp/day&night cycles etc.
I’d also try singleplayer, you can mess with the settings in launcher, (to some degree) to up the rates, but if like me you want to play with rates 5/10/20 times normal just to experience the whole game in a limited amount of time you can change the rates in a simple text doc INI file.
(I’ll find an exact link to that for reference)
EDIT:
Here is the file you need to edit, really simple.
Program Files (x86)
Steam
steamapps
common
ARK
ShooterGame
Config
Then find the file:
DefaultGameUserSettings
and in there you will find this page:
[ServerSettings]
DifficultyOffset=3.000000
NewMaxStructuresInRange=6000.000000

DayTimeSpeedScale=1.000000

HarvestHealthMultiplier=2.000000
PvEStructureDecayPeriodMultiplier=1.000000

you simply have to edit the numbers as you can see I have changed some from the defaults which are all 1.000000
Wow thanks for the post dude. I’ll give it a whirl.
If you use Kibble to tame, it reduces taming times by a shit load. E.g the highest level Rex would normally take 14 hours, with Kibble it takes just under 3 hours. A low level Rex would sit under an hour. However you do use Kibble, you need to spend time finding the right ingredients to make and farm Kibble, but it’s worth it.
The below website is the best taming calculator I’ve found which will give you a good idea of tame times.

try primitive PVP servers, no firearms or explosives basically. Your stone castle actually takes some time to break into, which makes sense. There’s less of the FPS KOS crowd on there.
You really do need a tribe, but you can get a lot accomplished without one in primitive.
Unofficial servers you also stand a chance ot lose everyhting, at least on officials you can tool up and take revenge – where is someone decides they are bored of their server and delete it – so be it.
