NVIDIA releases patches and updates all the time. It’s part and parcel of the company’s business, after all. What they don’t do all the time is release their own mods.
That’s the territory NVIDIA will be wading into this week, announcing the release of Vault 1080. It’s a visual-first mod that also acts as an introduction for the next generation of their GameWorks technology.
“Volumetric lighting features extensively – in ways not seen in the standard game – while shadows are more realistic and velvety than ever,” NVIDIA said in a blog post. “This is thanks to HBAO+ and its control of ambient occlusion, which creates authentic depths anywhere a light source is blocked, no matter how small or fleeting.”
But while NVIDIA’s offering is obviously an opportunity to spruik their own tech, it’s not devoid of content. Vault 1080 also adds a new questline, although you won’t be able to play it until Saturday, when the GPU manufacturer unveils it at PAX West.
When it is finally released, you’ll be able to download the mod for free from the Bethesda website. I wonder if AMD might look at following suit — and whether NVIDIA will get into the modding game for other PC titles, such as ARK: Survival Evolved.

That’s awesome! More keen for this than I was for all of the Bethesda DLC combined.
Reminds me a bit of HL2: Lost Coast, but it’s good to hear it’s not just a showcase.
I would just be happy if they cared enough to keep improving performance in the game after winning on the launch day benchmark.
