Overwatch‘s new and 24th hero is the tank Orisa, who fights with a “fusion driver,” or a projectile machine gun. In a developer update video, Kaplan says her weapon has more range than nearly any other tank hero. She’s currently on the PTR.
Orisa’s overview describes her as the “central anchor of her team,” who defends with a protective barrier. Her “fortify” ability allows her to reduce incoming damage, and her protective barrier allows her to shield allies, similar to Zarya.
Here’s her origin story:

Looks abit spaz but the skins are nice, i think this character is going to be fun to play and fit with those who want to “lead” from the battlefield.
The machine gun looks powerfull but will need to see how it tracks against enemies.
The little mini gravity ball is going to be OP / super fun to use, pinning a mercy for a few seconds before she can fly off, grouping a few enemies together for others to pick off etc.
For the first time in awhile I am keen on jumping on a new character straight away
Pretty well much confirms that Blizzard is out of character ideas by just mashing two tanks together (Reinheardt & Zarya) and calling it a day.
That’s like saying that Symmetra is just a mashing up of Mei (slowing), Torb (turrets) and Rein (Shield). Just because singular skills are somewhat similar to others, doesn’t mean that they’ll be utilized the same way, in the same circumstances or that the hero will have the same impacts. And of course you’ll compare her to Rein. Because he’s the only current anchor tank there is.
On the contrary, I think this character will work as almost the opposite of Symmetra. Instead of displacing enemies with her alternate fire like Symmetra, she’ll group them up. Instead of giving allied shield hit points, she’ll buff their firepower. Instead of cutting off flank routes, she’ll lead the center charge.
I’m very interested to see how she fits in.
Similar? This new characters skills are almost entirely Zarya’s with a few changeups to turn it into an anchor. Come on. Call a spade a spade.
Please explain how (with the exception of her alternate fire being a lite version of graviton surge).
I’ll reserve final judgement until I get to play her but from Jeff’s explanation I can’t help but agree with you.
OTOH Blizzard may not be out of character ideas totally, maybe only for this very specific role (the ‘anchor tank’).
The dark fire will not avail you, flame of Udun.
Edit: Oh it’s a centaur, not a balrog…
Listen I know the Sombra ARG was a bust, but Blizzard have failed in the other direction this time. Orisa has just kinda, happened – next to zero hype except for the Effi tease and the Doomfist gauntlet.
Sounds really broken… and it seems like they cant think of new mechanics :\
Just have to wait and see I guess.
Well, it’s not literally a robot spider called Anchor, but I guess that 4Chan malarkey was legit.
Not a great fan of the character design they’ve got going on this one.
I like this one, can’t wait till she’s out of the ptr
