Players looking to snag a platinum trophy for Nier: Automata will have an easier time after a few playthroughs. Trophies will be available for purchase using currency collected in game.
As noted by Reddit user youkatei, players can actually buy trophies in game using their gathered money. But don’t fret, this isn’t something you pay real world money for. It’s the same in game currency you’d use to buy a potion or a weapon. Players can use their gathered funds to unlock trophies after three playthroughs if they locate a secret shop.

Nier: Automata promises to be a very large and replayable game. There’s multiple endings and secrets to be found. After three playthroughs, players might want a little break. Especially considering how much of a time investment that will be.
Director Yoko Taro has always been fond of blurring the lines between the real world and his games. He’s deleted save files, deliberately changes visual perspectives and genres mid game, and allowed players to kill themselves by un-equipping essential items. This is just another quirky decision from a designer who is eager to play around with his games.

I’m not going to hold my breath.
Well the game is already out in Japan (with English voices and text), so… I think it’s safe to say there’s nothing to worry about.
Unless the reason for the slight delay was to make these PSN (and eventually Steam) purchases.
Well I meant more in general for gaming than just Nier
I’ve never given a rat’s arse about trophies but even I think this is BS.
Why? considering the lengths you have to go to to even make this secret shop accessible and the fact that it is only grind-able ingame currency being spent on something pretty much nobody other than yourself will ever know or care about I don’t think its a problem. It’s just the designers having fun screwing with the system. Plus these games like being really meta. A secret shop that lets you (and never forces you to) spend vast amounts of money on something that has literally no practical or even cosmetic use in game is fairly par for the course.
If I could trade my $3 million useless cash in Borderlands 2 for the leftover class specific trophies, I would be cackling maniacally. That’s saving me literal DAYS of rote gameplay.
Why the fuck not? If their Nier-bucks are easier to obtain than grinding out trophies, it’s a nice option to have. Especially for people who take that sort of thing seriously.
I’m actually so damn happy about this. There’s been a few games where I’ve been so tempted to go for the platinum because I loved it that much, but then there is some kind of rediculious trophy that ends up being a terrible ruining grind. It allows people who love the game in different ways still devote themselves to it without them needing to do some certain part they don’t necessarily enjoy.
