The Secret of Mana remake is coming out later this year across the PC, PS4 and Vita. And as you’d expect, there was some gameplay shown off during the Tokyo Game Show.
Titled Seiken Densetsu 2 in Japan, the developers showed off some of the remake’s multiplayer footage live on stage. There’s no English throughout the clip, except for the HP and MP metres, so this is really only of use to Secret of Mana fans who have an idea of what’s going on.
But if that’s you, then good times! The remake features co-op for up to three players, like the 1993 original, and while the art style will probably still cop flak from fans, everything seems to work well enough.
I didn’t grow up with a NES or SNES, so I don’t have the same requisite love for classics like this that Mark, for instance, does. But the fact that it’s getting remade after all this time is pretty special. It lets people like me get a taste of what the magic was like back then, albeit with the necessary tweaks to make things more playable in 2017. Or, in Secret of Mana‘s case, February 15 next year.
