Age Of Empires: Definitive Edition Pre-Orders Refunded

Age of Empires: Definitive Edition, an updated re-release of the classic RTS game, was originally scheduled for release last month. After delays set the release back to early 2018, pre-orders have been cancelled.

Anyone who pre-ordered the title should have received a refund for their purchase and an email from Microsoft with further details.

The Age of Empires: Definitive Edition team announced last month that they would not be meeting their October 19 release date. Instead, the game has been delayed until early 2018 so that they can re-create the game not as it actually was but as the players remember it.

In a more recent update, the team announced what will happen to players that pre-ordered the game.

Specifically that pre-orders have been refunded and cancelled, with anyone who wishes to pre-order (again) is able to do so through the Microsoft Store. On top of that, anyone with a cancelled pre-order will receive a free copy of Rise of Nations: Extended Edition.

Customers that pre-order Age of Empires: Definitive Edition will gain access to the closed beta for the game. Allowing them to play the game in spite of delays and provide feedback to the development team to help improve the release.
