As bonkers as Deadpool 2 already is, it could have gone so much further.
In an interview with writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese for Uproxx, the pair have revealed that Deadpool 2 originally contained an end-credits scene that would have featured baby Hitler. As it was originally shot, Deadpool went back in time to a German nursery where baby Hitler was in a crib.
The kicker, as Reese described, was that killing babies – even Hitler – was a step too far, even for Deadpool:
We shot it and we put it in front of an audience. He’s got the crib and he’s standing in the German nursery and he’s leaning over the crib to do it and there was kind of this, “ohhhhh.” And we thought we don’t want to leave the crowd on an “ohhhhh.” So it ended up coming out.
The last moment of the scene would have featured Deadpool saying “maximum effort”, while a previous draft saw Deadpool drawing a moustache on baby Hitler with a permanent marker before proceeding. “Now he looks just enough like him that he can get up the courage to do it,” Reese said.
Given that the scene was shot, there’s a chance it’ll reappear in Deadpool 2‘s DVD release. For the rest of the interview with the Deadpool writers, head to Uproxx.
