The day that was prophesied by a light switch is finally upon us: Diablo 3 is coming to Nintendo Switch this year.
The news was meant to be announced tomorrow, but appeared today on Forbes in a post that’s since been deleted.
Diablo 3 Eternal Collection on Switch will include the original game, the Reaper of Souls expansion, the Rise of the Necromancer pack, and all updates the game has received thus far. You’ll also be able to get an armour set that makes you look like Ganondorf from The Legend of Zelda, because I guess Ganondorf would be mad about the devil muscling in on his “crown prince of evil” turf.
The Switch version will also let you play multiplayer in a number of different configurations, from four-player local co-op on the same machine, to four-player co-op on separate Switches without an internet connection, to fully online co-op, to having some players local and others connected over the internet.
It’ll cost $US59.99 ($83) and will be out sometime later this year. Fun sidenote: This will be the first Blizzard game on a Nintendo platform in 15 years.

I knew this had to happen, and it looks pretty good. After playing the original on PC when the RMAH was in effect, it’ll be fun to go back to the fixed game with local co-op, all the new content, and without the horrendous lag.
Also good thing that i didn’t cave and buy the crappy titan quest port. :p
Yeah, I’ve learnt at this point, wait a week for reviews on any Switch ports. Well, I pulled the trigger on Hollow Knight immediately, but that was definitely no cheap rush job
Good thing I didn’t buy that Necromancer pack on PS4. Will give me something new to try out on Switch!
I don’t know why Blizzard ever bothered denying that this was happening. In any case, that’s another game to add to my purchase list for the second half of 2018. So many Switch games, so little time…
i am both delighted & terrified at this news. Having spent all of the hours blasting away at this previously thinking I’m finally ‘done’, I look forward to sneaking in cheeky rift expeditions on trains, planes, toilets and combinations thereof.
So, playing Diablo on a plane toilet … wearing a trainer conductor’s hat?
Absolutely, whilst playing co-op with the guy/gal in the next cubicle – there’ll no doubt be a ‘Mile high’ achievement unlock to go with it; making future conversations with parents about how you passed the in-time flight super awkward when they start reminiscing.
There is a terrible ‘Diabloo’ pun waiting to be used (that the internet is probably already jumping all over) here too – let’s kill it before it starts 🙂
Oh lol … that’s made my day!
Local co-op is a big draw. My GF and I play Minecraft this way, currently.
Big question: Cross-play? Save-game portability from PS4? Starting a new paragon is… less appealing. The prospect of re-grinding hundreds of hours makes me more inclined to just give it a pass.
I too am only really interested in this if it has crossplay, or at the very least, I can use my characters.
Good points, will you have to slog through the campaign to unlock adventure mode etc? Even if you wait to get someone to drag/speed you through it means someone has to slog through it to begin with if everyone starts at 0?
Or is this going to be like Fortnite where your account won’t work properly if you’ve played on PS4 etc?
Oh hell yeah……never played it as I couldn’t ever put the time in. On the Switch that is different.
Bought D3 for PC day 1 when it came out, played it on day 2 or 3 when the servers finally worked and was underwhelmed and annoyed by most of it. I’ve heard loads about how the game has been fixed in many different ways since then so I’m actually pretty excited about giving it a go, especially local co-op.
played D3 on the day it came out and finshed it same day, i havent seen any thing new since then, add it to the switch? big woop, expand it, for fuck sake if that horrbile coded parth of exile can do it so can you.
Maxtrax please you seriously need to chill out dude! I never played Diablo in all my life I mean I played Diablo on Windows 95 as a demo since I was a kid and now that Blizzard’s Diablo 3 is coming to the Nintendo Switch later this year. I’m really keen to get back into some Diablo 3 action and the fact that you get to dress up as Ganondorf that’s even better.
Thank you so much Blizzard for taking the time to tell us that Diablo 3 is coming to the Nintendo Switch later this year. I’m really looking forward to getting back to playing some more Diablo 3 action that I haven’t played in all my life. Keep up the good work and please bring Overwatch to the Nintendo Switch sometime soon.
