Despite Reports, No Arrest Yet In Playstation Network Outage

No arrests have been made connected to the Playstation outage, Kotaku has confirmed, despite a story making the rounds that claims FBI and others have issues warrants and made arrests.

Speaking to the FBI this morning, Kotaku confirmed there have been no arrests in the U.S.

The story, which seemed to first pop up on website Gamesthirst, claims that the FBI are looking into the case, issues 40 arrest warrants for members of Anonymous in America and that some members of the hactivist group were already arrested in the UK.

The story bears a striking resemblance to a press release sent out by the FBI in January about their investigation into Anonymous, spurred by the group's distributed denial of service attacks on U.S. companies.

That release begins:

"FBI agents today executed more than 40 search warrants throughout the United States as part of an ongoing investigation into recent coordinated cyber attacks against major companies and organizations. Also today, the United Kingdom's Metropolitan Police Service executed additional search warrants and arrested five people for their alleged role in the attacks."

In that case, Anonymous publicly claimed responsibility for the attack. While Anonymous initially called for an attack on Sony, they've since said they were not responsible for the outage. Of course, the leaderless structure of the group could mean that an off-shoot of the group is responsible.

Those 40 warrants being served by the FBI are in relation to the cyber attacks allegedly perpetuated by Anonymous on several websites and are not in any way related the recent "external intrusion" on the Playstation Network. This is old news which has been "revised" and regurgitated just to add more fodder to the outrage of millions of PSN subscribers who cannot go online.

As for the PSN outage, all we have are a few words from Sony and tons of conjecture and speculation.

For the record, I own a 120 GB PS3 slim. I am a very patient man so I will sit this one out until Sony fixes the problem.

I hacked Sony. Please arrest me. I am in dire need of helath care!

lmao....that was funny and sad at the same time.

well i'm really pissed off. not only do i not get to kill fools all across the world, i get to spend more "quality" time with my family. REALLY???!!!! thats what i really want to do after work. shower and have family time. SUNDAYS!!!! gotta go to the inlaws, instead of sitting in my recliner murkn fools with my clan ALL DAY LONG... im pissed..i need a drink.....

Hang on! I thought these basement dwellers were anonymous and the government didn't know who they were? Anonymous are a bunch of douchebags. Quite clearly they are not anonymous. As I said a week ago, if a government can track down terrorists or expose/arrest secret service agents carrying out an assassination, they can track down these basement dwellers and taser them 12 times. Watch out Anonymous! Our governments are coming for you.

They are the government. They are legion. The government doesn't forgive crime. The government doesn't forget crime.

I hope geohot goes to prison and gets a stroke in his ass for every person affected by him and his lame ass crew
