In June of 1984, Alexey Pajitnov created Tetris, one of the most popular video games of all time. Three decades later, Ubisoft announces Tetris Ultimate — the final game in the series, unless I am applying an irresponsibly erroneous definition to the word “ultimate”.
Coming to current generation consoles this summer and PC later in the year, Tetris Ultimate needs to surpass every Tetris game that’s come before in order to live up to its name. Is that even possible? Can four-players and six game modes — Marathon, Battle, Power-Up Battle, Ultra, Endless and Spirit — truly be the maximum;decisive;conclusive entry in the classic series? Should I stop visiting Dictionary.com and relax?
Alexy Pajitnov will be at E3 2014 with Ubisoft next week, showing off Tetris Ultimate to the assembled gaming press. Only then will we know if this really is the Tetris game mentioned in Revelations.

Laughed.
As long as you can disable that annoying piece ghost, I’ll be happy.
dear ubisoft,
there’s only so much you can do with the tetris formula. & it was done in ’84.
But Welltris came out in ’89
TetriNET was a pretty interesting multi-player variant of the game. I remember playing it a lot back in uni. Six players and power ups made the game feel noticeably different to previous incantations (even to the Gameboy two player mode).
Presumably the “power up battle” mode is based on it.

Pretty sure that is something both amazing and semi recent
(if you have a weak stomach consider this a warning)
Can’t play fast on a Console. Automatically shit for multiplayer, no thanks. Plus who pays for a tetris game anymore. There are a million great clones for any kind of player. Also “Marathon, Battle, Power-Up Battle, Ultra, Endless and Spirit ” All of them already exist in other forms.
