Destiny‘s Crota’s End raid will get its much-anticipated hard mode next Wednesday, January 21, Bungie has announced. Brace your level 32 characters for impact.
In a new Destiny weekly update, Bungie’s David “DeeJ” Dague shared more details:
Hard Mode for Crota’s End is ready. We know you are, too. The first Fireteam to sink their teeth (and their sword) into the final boss (and by opposing, end him) will set the pace. We’ll be watching. We might even send the World First finishers some swag from the Bungie Store.
When?
Wednesday, January 21st – 10AM* Pacific
*(or soon after if we need more time to load the starting pistol)
Where?
To the Moon!
Access the Raid by selecting the activity in your Director, and choosing the harder difficulty. With the release of Hard Mode, Level 33 is the new bar to clear. Configure those upgrades and get mean.
How?
I can’t give you a playbook for how to end Crota this time. You don’t need my help, anyway. If you’ve experienced Hard Mode in Vault of Glass, you have some clues for how we can scale up a Raid. Prepare to take better care of your teammates. You’ll have fewer options for healing yourself, and each other. The enemies you’re about to face are stronger and more prone to temper tantrums. Be brave!
Loot?
Loot! Aside from the usual thrill of battling aliens with your favourite weapons and your most trusted allies, Hard Mode beckons with treasures all its own. We reserved some coveted rewards for the best raiders among you. Killing Crota will give you all a fighting chance to earn them.
He then goes on to outline the new primary weapons that will drop on hard difficulty.
Everyone out there ready to do this thing? I sure am. If you still need to fight your way to level 32, take a look at our advanced tips for the game.

My favourite part is the new raid rewards… which are just Vanguard guns with Seashells! Working hard I see Bungie! I only mostly regret my season pass now 😀
haha vangaurd guns with seashells. thats great. and very true. seashells and a bit of black gauze.
In painful seriousness though, the only new gun model in the dark below seems to be Murmur/Husk of Pit and maybe some exotics? Even the Hunger of Crota is the rare rocket launcher with a green scope, black paint and a little skull. The really didn’t want to animate new reloading animations or firing did they!?
I haven’t played much Destiny recently but I remember using No Lands Beyond and they created a new reloading/firing animation for that one I believe. That’s the only one I can remember though.
But but they have elemental damage
First raid uses previously unknown exploit or workaround to clear content in record time again. Bungie gets egg on face again. Destiny apologists climb out of woodwork to tell everyone to give the game time, it is still finding its feet again. People believe the hype…again.
People enjoy a video game, other people try to tell them they are wrong, people believe it will work… again.
