Making anime is hard! The pressure is high. The pay is low. All this combined, no doubt, leads to anime mistakes.
Many of these misses are kinda understandable considering the gruelling environment in which animators work!
Via 2ch (here and here) as well as Twitter, here’s an assortment of composition and drawing mistakes in anime.
For example…

Even box art is not safe!
Got it? Good. Try to spot them for yourself in the images below!

It’s not just anime. The 80’s Ninja Turtles had their share. Raph’s voice coming from Don on two occasions.
Agreed. A lot of 80’s cartoons had artistic bloopers.
That second last one was from Mezzo or Mezzo Forte. And that dude’s head was intentionally drawn that way. Like he had his neck broken. I dunno, was a long time ago since I watched it.
These I can forgive. The one deliberate trend that really, really bugs me is how they don’t draw part of the arm(The bit that goes from your eyes to ears) of a pair of glasses in profile shots so they can show the full eye.
honestly this would have been better if some had been more obvious lol a lot of the pics i looked at i couldnt tell what was supposed to be wrong.
#1 (pink haired girl): too many fingers.
#2 (superhero): arm is going through the girl’s torso, and her legs & arms are going behind his body.
#3 (hurdles): scale; the hurdles are nearly as tall as the girls are.
#4 (classroom): Not sure, but the chairs seem to be sitting on a slope. Also, the ramp between the desks is very steep, very wide, and in general the classroom is just way bigger than any actual classroom for that many people.
#5 (purple haired girl): Stainding on air.
#6 (street scene): The doors are just a bit too elevated from the actual street; you’d normally have steps.
#7 (Lelouch with dangling Shirley): Shirley’s left arm, rotated around, would come to her calf. Basically, her left arm is way too long.
#8 (Bleach baseball): Yoruichi’s right leg seems to be cut off at the knee. (And her left foot is arguably resting on air).
#9 (street scene): Scale; houses in the foreground are much bigger than people in the foreground – basically, the perspective applied is very different.
#10 (Fate/stay night): Saber is sitting in front of the foreground character’s back.
#11 (aerobics): Are they suppose dto be jumping? The shadows say they are… otherwise, the vertical white lines on the ceiling don’t show perspective.
#12 (stairs): Not sure about this one, but the girl at dead centre of the picture seems to have really, really long legs.
#13 (drinking girl): The nose seems to be huge, and she seems to be about to pour the drink onto her left cheek. Or else, her mouth is much higher on her face than it should be.
#14 (high jump): Scaling; either that high jump is enormous, or the girl is tiny.
#15 (kiss): Scaling; that face is enormous. About the size of a serving platter.
#16 (corridor): I think Armaron is correct that the tilted head is deliberate. It makes his neck far too long, however. Also, the guy at the far end on the right seems to be running out of corridor to stand in (but maybe not).
#17 (thumbs down): Too many fingers.
That’s mostly what I got haha. Though, I reckon #12 is about how impossibly steep those stairs are up that hill (to go up that high in such little horizontal distance would make each stair like 2cm wide) and also the way the trees are growing on the steep hill.
Also, surprised to see that such a big production as Fate/Stay Night would have such an obvious mistake XD
I figured the stairs were mostly face-on, exaggerating the slope.
As for the trees, trees can grow on surprisingly steep slopes… but I do notice one seems to have its roots in midair.
My friend and I were looking at these and noticed that for #4
there are no Stairs in the classroom.
So they must slide into class everyday.
I noticed that as well, but it’s conceivable that a classroom could use ramps rather than stairs. Weird, but conceivable. On the other hand, the slope used is really ,really steep (as I mentioned in my initial reply).
I like how we’re not sure if the ‘mistakes’ are intentional or not – anime classrooms can get pretty weird sometimes haha.
#4 Classroom – The top left 2 students are not seated at the desk, but the viewing platform.
Nice list Gregor, TY. Two that I disagree with though:
#8 Bleach Baseball. This one is Mr. Hat and Clogs hanging on to the ledge by his arm, but otherwise just casually floating in the air.
#11 Aerobics. Took me ages with this one, and it’s so obvious. Nothing appears in the mirrors on the back wall.
I still can’t really figure #12 though
It’s the stairs. There’s so many steps for such a steep hill, which leads me to imagine there only being enough room to tip-toe up them. They’re pretty much climbing an incredibly unsafe ladder. The stairs need at least four rails.
Example: http://i.imgur.com/LTbrbKd.jpg (but imagine there being more narrow steps, or the people being slightly bigger)
Oh man, those are some scary stairs!
#11 figured the back was windows, in which the case lack of reflections would be understandable (and the lack of background scenery a simple animation shortcut).
#8 – Thanks, didn’t spot that.
#11 Sorry I didn’t make this clear. There is a line of blue on the floor at the back that shows where the wall is, this clearly indicates there is a mirror starting there that shows the room but with no girls in it.
@nestama. I guess you’re right, just seems a bit underwhelming compared to the others
Oh man, I’m seeing the mirrors now. They are so bad that we can’t even tell that they’re mirrors!
