Rumour: Jaffe Tease Means Twisted Metal At E3?

1:00AM Owen Good | David Jaffe’s already said Twisted Metal is coming to PS3. And sure, lots of games involve cars and humans. But a sloppily posted screenshot of an email may tease the game’s unveiling at E3. More »

Twisted Metal Arcade Game Was Once Planned

7:40AM Michael McWhertor | Buried within the latest blog update from God of War and Twisted Metal producer David Jaffe is mention that at one point, someone, somewhere thought a Twisted Metal arcade game was a good idea and that there were hazy plans for Midway and Sony to collaborate on such a product. While that obviously never bore fruit — and more than likely never, ever will — to know that vehicular combat could have come to a Midway arcade cabinet is morbidly fascinating. Jaffe writes that he met with Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon way back in the mid-nineties to discuss such a venture, but that “nothing – clearly – ever came of it”. Of course, this was when arcades were still viable and Twisted Metal was but a fledgling series. They were also the heady days of Cruis’n World and War Gods, two indicators that it was probably best for all involved that Twisted Metal Arcade never saw the light of day. Still, we’d love to have a peek into the alternate universe where it did. If only for the laughs! SAN DIEGO COMIC CON 2008 [DavidJaffe.biz] More »

Kratos Was Originally Dominus, Twisted Metal Originally More Awesome

1:40PM Luke Plunkett | Nestled gently at the bottom of one of his most recent blog posts, David Jaffe has spoken a little on a topic that I’ve always found interesting as hell: the previous/working titles of some of his games. Something about how a different name can alter your entire perception of a title…anyways. Some of them are really interesting! Like the fact one of God of War’s possible names was Ω. Just the symbol. And the fact Kratos was for a long time going to be called the much-cheesier (especially with ham and pineapple) Dominus. And that one of Twisted Metal’s original names was the brilliantly evocative Cars and Rockets, which Jaffe said “nobody else” liked. Nobody? Oh Sony. Why the do we even try? [Jaffe's Blog] More »

David Jaffe Re-Invisions Mario, Is Going Bald

5:00PM Brian Ashcraft | Kotaku guest editor and Game Trailers faceman Geoff Keighley talks to David Jaffe about important things like overestimating the audience for small games, the possibility of Twisted Metal for the PS3 and hair loss. There’s also a hundred dollar bet whether Ken Kutaragi knows who David Jaffe is. So exciting! Hit the jump for part 2, where Jaffe talks about how he’d do a Mario game. (Hint: DRUGS.) More »

Twisted Metal PS3 Coming in Late 2009?

7:20AM Mark Wilson | Today’s revelation of a Twisted Metal game coming for PS3 (OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG) has a lot of us moderately interested (IGNORE THIS GUY, WE’RE FREAKING OUT!). But if we piece together something from a recent interview with David Jaffe, we may get an approximate timeline for when to expect Twisted Metal PS3 to cure all maladies in the world hit store shelves. …all we have said is that we have a three-game contract with Sony. Those games are PlayStation 3. We have started development on the first of those three games a couple of weeks ago. Realistically, that game will see the light of day at the end of 2009, maybe a little later or sooner, we’ll see how things go. Take your time; we’re freezing ourselves until the game comes out anyway. David Jaffe Lets Loose [gametap via maxconsole] More »

Jaffe: PS3 Twisted Metal Next Project

4:59AM Brian Crecente | When David Jaffe released Twisted Metal Head On: Extra Twisted Edition he promised that there was a hidden message in the game that would reveal the next project for Jaffe’s Eat Sleep Play development studio. Well it may have been “hidden really, really, really well” but you know how hardcore fans can be. A group over at Gamefaq managed to decipher the message in record time, discovering that it reads: METAL IS COMING ON PSTHREE. I contacted Jaffe, who’s hanging at DICE this week, to see if the gamers were on the money and he confirmed they were, adding his chagrin at how fast the code was discovered and cracked. Unfortunately, he hit me with a big fat no comment when I asked him if the upcoming PS3 version of Metal was going to be hitting the console via a disc or as a downloadable. “As for how it gets distributed, no comment :)” More »

A Duo Of Twisted Metal Head On: Extra Twisted Edition Clips

7:20AM Mark Wilson | While we weren’t so excited about Twisted Metal Head On: Extra Twisted (Extra Long Name) Edition for PS2 when it was announced—despite our love for the series, we’d played the game once before—we can’t help but to get a little excited when watching clips of the new version in motion. They makes us wonder why we ever put down the PSP version in the first place, a game that was closer to the heart of the fanboy-acclaimed Twisted Metal 2 than any other in the franchise. Enjoy this look at Moscow and a peak at Egypt after the jump. More »

Jaffe: Here’s My Goddamn Wii Controller, Bitches

10:40AM Michael McWhertor | The man behind vehicular shooter Twisted Metal, David Jaffe, recently fired back with with a nigh perfect response to Shigeru Miyamoto’s question “Why would you make that? Why would you put a gun on a car?” His interview with Wired’s Game|Life, well, it got the internet—alright, a handful of commenters and message board pitchfork wielders—into a bit of a tizzy. But the man loves Nintendo. Maybe not on teething with a GameCube controller levels, but just because he’s got a suitable response doesn’t mean he’s not a fan. Jaffe, today, urges calm to the throngs of upset Nintendo and Miyamoto fans who feel slightly sore down there. “It’s a joke. It was funny,” he says in his new video blog, just before whipping out his personal Wii remote, “I thought it was somewhat funny.” Oh, David, it was. Can’t we all just relax and enjoy Mr. Jaffe’s ability to question the logic of banana-peel firing go karts? OMFG!!! [David Jaffe's Blog] More »
