Every time I write about Skulls of the Shogun, I use the same buzzwords: “Advance Wars”. “Wu-Tang Clan”. It’s one of the most stylish turn-based strategy games on the horizon. And it plays really well.
Brad Wardell, president and CEO of software company Stardock, recently said that the upcoming Windows 8 operating system is so severely flawed that it will hurt the PC experience and, therefore, PC gaming. How bad does he think Windows 8 is?
Stardock is now best known s the publisher of the Sins of a Solar Empire and Elemental franchises, after selling online distribution service Impulse last year. They have just released their annual customer report, talking not only about their experiences in 2011 but also looking into the crystal ball of PC gaming in 2012 and beyond. And the future, they find, may be hazy for Windows-based gaming.
There’s no clear answer from Microsoft at the moment, other than the fact XNA won’t be supported going into the company’s new operating system. However, a recent presentation at this year’s Game Developer’s Conference revealed a few more tidbits for us to contemplate.
Windows 8 Consumer Preview cracked one million downloads shortly after launching last Wednesday and I’m sure many of you have tried it already. Whether you went with a dual-boot, upgrade, clean install or virtual machine, if you’re coming from Windows 7 you’ll notice significant changes immediately, while others may not be as obvious.
So, this is the new Start screen for Windows 8. It looks a lot like Windows Phone Live Tiles. And hey, that looks like an app store.
