The Week In Games

Hey, this week isn’t just about all the new games previewed at E3. It’s about games you can buy right now – or at least, this Thursday.

And, you know what? This week is perhaps the single biggest week for new releases thus far this year. The Sims 3, Red Faction: Guerrilla, inFamous, Rhythm Heaven and, er… Cooking Mama 2 all represent worthwhile purchases across all major platforms. Except PSP.

Sorry, PSP owners.

What are you picking up this week?

New releases for the w/c June 1:

Cooking Mama 2: World Kitchen (Wii)
What Is it? Everyone’s favourite domestic goddess serves up a new bunch of recipes.
Should You Care? These are surprisingly fun games. I wouldn’t exactly recommend you buy it, but you’d probably be entertained if you did.

Damnation (360, PS3, PC)
What Is it? Third-person shooter set in some conceptually appealing steampunk universe.
Should You Care? I say “conceptually” because the game itself isn’t very good.

inFamous (PS3)
What Is it? Superhero-charged open world action from the makers of Sly Cooper.
Should You Care? A bit rough and a tad repetitive, but still solidly playable.

Namco Museum: Virtual Arcade (360)
What Is it? Compilation of Namco’s Xbox Live Arcade titles, including the wonderful Pac-Man Championship Edition and, er… some lesser lights.
Should You Care? Cheaper than buying them all on XBLA, but you probably don’t want them all.

Red Faction: Guerrilla (360, PS3)
What Is it? Another open world actioner, this time set on Mars and heavily focused on environmental carnage.
Should You Care? This is the most fun I’ve had with a game so far this year. So, yes, you should damn well care.

Rhythm Heaven (DS)
What Is it? WarioWare with beats.
Should You Care? If Beyonce cares, then so do I.

The Sims 3 (PC)
What Is it? You know precisely what this is.
Should You Care? And chances are you already know the answer to this as well.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope (360)
What Is it? Sci-fi Squeenix RPG with a quirky real-time battle system.
Should You Care? Should provide your space opera fix until Mass Effect 2 rolls around.
