UPDATE: A couple of characters from the game look awfully familiar…
HP Lovecraft’s Shadow of the Comet. Awesome game, except for the part where you literally use candle wax to fix your wings…
A quick google tells me that HP Lovecraft’s name wasn’t directly attached to the game, but Call of Cthulu was.

I always thought the standard sprite for the protaganist looked like a monkey because of his oversized mutton chops.
The other guy (doctor cobble based on the text) looks like the lead singer from Modest Mouse.
I was nearly going to go with Gabriel Knight, but a quick check told me I was miles off the mark..
I didn’t even know there was a sequel. I’m going to have grab a copy of that. Guess I know what I’m doing tonight!
That second guy looks just like Jack Nicholson from The Shining!
