Arkham City Is (Maybe) Mark Hamill's Last Performance As The Joker

Arkham City is pretty damn special, so the fact it's out this week is good news. That good news has been tempered with a little sadness, though, as it could be the last time we'll ever hear Mark Hamill lend his voice to The Joker.

The star of General Hospital and The Big Red One (oh, and Star Wars) first played the part of the Dark Knight's arch enemy in the 1992 Batman animated series, and has been popping up to reprise the role ever since. He, along with many of the cartoon's other cast members, was involved in Batman: Arkham Asylum, leading to his wonderful performance in Arkham City as the very ill, very tired Joker.

While the above tweet reads very much like a farewell, Hamill played it coy a few months back when he seemingly retired from the role - again, over Twitter - only to later step back from the abyss.

Here's hoping he's just fucking with us. Again. A Joker without Mark Hamill is, to many fans under the age of 40, just a strange man in a fancy suit.

If he does quit, I think a suitable replacement would be John DiMaggio. He did a very good job as the Joker.

I dunno, I really liked DiMaggio's performance in Under the Red Hood, but his Joker sounds a bit too... off for my liking.

      I loved his laugh though.

When it comes to the Joker it's really based on his laugh. It's the most memorable part about Mark Hamill's performance.

He was good. Kept the same madness tinged with genius that Hamill lent but gave his own twist on it.

I kind of liked who ever it was that did the voice for Brave and the Bold but he had a very different style.

I'm sorry, but I don't really care for the Brave and the Bold. But that's mainly based on the fact that I don't really like the series overall.

I used to feel the same way...
Brave and The Bold is some of the biggest fan service going, and it is great.
          Seriously!!! Watch this

straight from the show and convinced me...

No one can replace Mark Hamill, we all know that, but the dude who did the Brave and the Bold voice was still pretty good, I'll add that I really, really enjoyed that series. It's nice to see awesomely cool Batman for a change instead of mopey justice Batman.
Also, I think I liked Kevin Michael Richardson's Joker in The Batman more than I liked DiMaggio's(And I'm a big DiMaggio fan :P)

I've never watched Brave and The Bold, but after checking out a few clips on youtube, I'm not a fan of whoever did the Joker voice either, that version sounds almost too... suave... I think is the best word for it...

Well, you know what they say. When you find something you enjoy doing, that you get paid for, and that you know you'll miss terribly if you stop doing it, then it's time to quit.

Isn't it the 'Clown Prince', not the 'Crown Prince'? Tsk tsk Skywalker.

You have to cut him some slack occasionally. It must be tiring living in constant fear of all those rabid Star Wars fans. ;)

Well, seeing as Rocksteady are apparently thinking of doing something else, there probably won't be another Joker appearance any time soon.

Am I the only one who finds the Paul Dini/Bruce Timm versions of DC characters to be the definitive ones? Maybe it's just because they're the ones I grew up with.

      Definitive? No.
      The Best? Yes

If you want to see something interesting, check out the Trickster in the 90's Flash live-action series. It's pretty much Mark Hamill doing the Joker before Batman TAS.

Hmm did he not say this when arkham city was starting development

      your right he did...

      *potential spoiler alert*

also if you finish AC you might get a big clue as to why he might be retiring....

He did indeed, but this is Mr. Plunkett we're talking about!

Not again Mark :( Please don't be screwing with us.
