No One Lives Forever Had The Smartest Bad Guys

There were a lot of things to love about the No One Lives Forever games. The groovy music, the fresh-feeling 60s spy motif (Austin Powers be damned!), the fearless, funny heroine Cate Archer. But even when compared to those things, the game's writing stands apart.

The villain's banter, in particular, is great. In a day and age where we get things like Splinter Cell: Conviction's embarrassing "Fisher-Fest 2010", it's amazing to watch the above video, made by our own Chris Person, of the best of No One Lives Forever and No One Lives Forever 2's enemy banter.

Check out the video above to see what I'm talking about.

I don't even know which one is my favourite, but the insane beer monologue might be it. Like... the text has to start scrolling just to fit all the words! Some writer had a lot of fun with this.

The thing I most enjoyed about the enemy banter was that it was a real, non-gameplay reward for effectively using stealth. I didn't care so much about making it to the end without being detected, but if I did so, it meant I'd get to overhear conversations like these. And that alone made it worth it.

Great game. Was the sequel any good??!

Sure was! One of the smartest and silliest FPS of its time.

    My God that was hilarious.

I wish NOLF would get released on GOG. I still have the discs for NOLF 2 but I have no idea what happened to the first one. :(

I wish Monolith would make another NOLF.

    That was solid gold

My favorite bits weren't on there - like the henchman falling from the sky towards a barn saying "Please be filled with hay, please be filled with hay!" NOLF deserves an HD makeover.

My fav was the romantic conversations of a man declaring his love that can be heard through a door only for you to open said door and there be this guy having a romantic dinner with a sheep. Man I nearly wet my pants in laughter.

could someone do a return to wolfenstien one with the german soldiers, some of them were hilarious

I was just thinking about these games over the weekend. I saw that Archer was on netflix and decided to play NOLF, but of course I couldn't find the discs :-P Foiled again.
