Halo 4 Pirates Perma-Banned From Xbox LIVE

Folks caught playing leaked, pirated copies of Halo 4 are now in the process of being permanently banned from Xbox LIVE, reports MCV.

In order to play Halo 4, users have to be using a modded Xbox 360. Those who have subsequently connected to Xbox LIVE whilst playing the game have been caught and banned.

The email sent to offenders states the following:

This email is to notify you that your Xbox Live privileges have been permanently suspended due to illegitimate prerelease title play.

Because your conduct is in violation, the Xbox Live Enforcement Team has issued a permanent suspension. Your Xbox Live privileges will not be reinstated.

It's a strong, but arguably fair response to the leak. Users will not be provided any more information about their ban, nor will there be any mercy regarding possible reinstatement.

"Consumers should be aware that piracy is illegal and we take vigorous action against illegal activity related to our products and services," a Microsoft spokesperson told MCV. "Playing pirated copies of games, such as Halo 4, is a violation of the Xbox Live Terms of Use and will result in enforcement action, such as account and console bans."

    Fair enough!

I can't wait to hear them crying about it as if they didn't know this was going to happen. My favourite bans are when some moron abuses staff because now he's lost all his Microsoft points and DLC access.

Spose this is a good first step, next step would be to ban anyone playing HALO online.
or bring back original HALO MP, the only one worth playing.

That's a load of shit, Halo's multiplayer is great in it's current state compared to 4 player split screen.

Modded console, pirated game... and yet there will still be some morons who go "I didn't know I was doing anything wrong!"

HA! Morons. I don't condone them modding consoles and playing illegal copies - but if your going to do it with pre-release games atleast get your console offline!!

In the past they have implemented things that track when your console played it even if you were offline so you would play for example Forza 3 2 weeks before release then when you plugged it in a few weeks later it would upload that you had played it and ban your console serial.

Seems fair. It's not as though they can't keep playing single-player games on their console.

"Those who have subsequently connected to Xbox LIVE whilst playing the game have been caught and banned"

    That's funny :P

My accounts gone :( any one want to buy a copy of H4 ?

Ordered online from eb. Last Tuesday release I remember was gears 3. It turned up on the Monday. Hoping if H4 turns up Monday the 5th and I play that Microsoft don't ban. Might have to stay offline that day.

I think as Iong as you retain a copy of your receipt they wiII Iet you off without a ban

Sweet. When I played gears I got an in game message congratulating me for being in the F&F early access period.

And rightly so. I remember similar with Halo 3. People were banned until 9999, right?

IIRC people who were banned when play one of the modern warfares before it came out formed a class action against microsoft for banning them because they took away their netflix privileges.

It could be a terms of service thing, I'm sure if they were sued in the past Microsoft's lawyers would make sure the current agreements allowed for this sort of ban.

I think it would be much more fun not to ban them but covertly screw with their heads.Lots of little things like reducing their damage, adding lagg and giving them bad aim turning them into NOOBS.

That would direct quite a lot of anger towards 343i however.

Then they would just bitch that it's a broken game...

Like the Arkham Asylum pirates who said it was buggy because they couldn't glide using Batman's cape at a crucial moment of the game. :)

I cx'an't believe people are stupid enough to go on Xbox Live with a modded console at all, let alone one with Halo 4 running. Are they not aware that Microsoft would be looking for people online doing exactly that?
Do what you want with your console, but don't expect there to be no consequences when you're caught.

I'll admit that i have a modded console, and the reason its modded is because its installed in my audi s4, but it only has rips of games that I have done myself.

It doesnt go online because its not like i have internet in my car, but if i did and it got banned then i'd just take my lumps.

    Hahaha. Patience is an virtue.

Ban them? Why stop there, take them to court, piracy is illegal and should be punished to the full extent.

Maybe because many of the people who cant wait 2 weeks to play their game are some of their biggest fans?

Because if you just ban them, they go buy another xbox and you don't lose a long term customer? lol (even if that customer doesn't pay for the software, you still get console and marketplace sales that otherwise might go to Sony.)

I guess it was bound to happen, but people actually went onto Xbox Live with Halo 4? I guess if you don't care about that xbox and you just want to brag to others that you have it.....but still....bit stupid...
