It's Like Dungeon Keeper, But Uglier

Okay, I have mixed feelings about A Game of Dwarves, a new strategy-sim game that the folks at Paradox will release on Steam next week.

On one hand, it looks like a lot of fun! You run a dungeon full of dwarves, sending them off to train and defend and research and mine and do all sorts of other Dungeon Keeper-esque activities. That old sim still ranks among my all-time favourites, so it's nice to see a spiritual successor in A Game of Dwarves, especially if it's as complex as advertised.

On the other hand... don't these guys just seem so... janky? The animation is just so stiff. And their faces skeeve me out.

What do you think? Can you still enjoy a game even if it's hard to look at? Post thoughts/examples (and pictures!) below.

Speaking of Dwarves, Dwarfs has just gone free to play on Steam.

No, while I love Dungeon Keeper, there is no way I could suffer through suffer through those overly colourful and cringe-worthy graphics and goofy, simplistic animations.

I love Dungeon Keeper II so much, and the day a third version comes out, i might just have a little cry in the shop. That said I don't mind the animations in 'A Game of Dwarves', it's the textures. I play DKII at 640x480 on a 27" screen, and the textures look somehow better than in this. Ah well, as long as it's fun and cheap, I'll pick it up.

this is 100% a total rip off of Dwarf Fortress 2 with a graphics overhaul
