Themed board games are nothing new, but if you’re a mad collector, it’s hard to pass up the opportunity to have tiny likenesses of Doctor Who characters duelling it out on a chessboard.
OK, the temptation might be easy to resist, but that doesn’t stop this from being a solid gift for a friend who likes both Doctor Who and chess. And to be fair, the two almost go hand-in-hand.
Each piece features a lenticular image of a Doctor Who character — all lenticular means is that the image will change between two different options as you move the piece around. It’s perhaps not as fancy as having your pawns teleport between universes as they advance, but it’ll have to do given the limitations modern day technology.
If you’re wondering which characters are represented in lenticular form, here are the details from ThinkGeek:
Good guys team includes: 11th Doctor, Amy Pond, Rory Williams, River Song, the TARDIS, and the Judoon.
Bad guys team includes: Weeping Angel, Supreme Dalek, Cybermen, Silurian General Restac, Smiler and the Pandorica.
You can pick it up ThinkGeek for $US39.99, though you might be able to track down something cheaper on eBay.
