This iPad App Puts Discworld’s Finest City At Your Fingertips. I’d Wear Gloves.

“There’s a saying that all roads lead to Ankh-Morpork. And it’s wrong. All roads lead away from Ankh-Morpork, but sometimes people just walk along the wrong way.” That’s pretty much all you need to know about the central city of Terry Pratchett’s beloved Discworld books, but if you’re still ill-advisedly curious, there’s now an interactive iPad guide to help you explore without getting your hands too dirty.

Based on (and including the full text of) The Compleat Ahnk-Morpork: City Guide book, Discworld: The Ankh-Morpork Map contains a pair of incredibly detailed maps of the City of a Thousand Surprises (none of them good). On these maps you will see more than 1,500 citizens of the city going about their business, selling sausages on a bun and such. You’ll have detailed descriptions of more than 2.000 buildings and landmarks. You can search, explore, read quotes from the novels or take a guided tour with historian Hortensia D’Antiqua, as voiced by Blackadder‘s Helen Atkinson Wood.

This is all the Discworld your iPad needs (aside from all the books and the TV movies), but it doesn’t come cheap. Random House is prepared to hand over the goods for $US13.99, and that’s cutting their own throats.
