   Is it a celebration of your commitment to the person you love or the celebration of the hobby you enjoy? It can’t be both, one will always take away from the other.

            Why can’t you celebrate your commitment to each other while basing the theme of celebrating that commitment on something you both love? By your logic weddings which are heavily religious mean that the presence of the church takes attention away from the couple getting married. It’s not – different people celebrate their love in different ways.

               Well said, people DO celebrate their love in different ways. And it’s natural that our influence will manifest themselves in our personal style. The problem is video games and our tastes are temporary and changing where as a marriage is supposed to be permenant. I think a few suntle video game references are fine but I shudder when I see weddings that look more like fancy dress birthday parties loaded with home made gaming props. It’s a recipe for regret down the track

               Why was that horrible? My wedding was heaps of fun, one of the bet days of my life next to my two sons bein born and the day I beat Goro at the arcade.

      How is decorating your wedding in a theme that pleases you collectively exhaustive with having a wedding? It’s pretty standard practice, whether what you like is spring and flowers, shiny sparkly fairy lights or a relatively tasteful take on Super Mario Aesthetics.

         Beautifying a place with flowers or fairy lights is not the same as growing a moustache in order to look like a video game character. One of them enhances the environment in which the wedding takes place, the other one makes a statement about how much you like video games. A wedding is a time to pledge your love and commitment to your spouse, not to express your love of your hobby. But to each their own. Personally I’m yet to see a video game themed wedding in which the gaming aspect adds to the ceremony or the meaning of the ritual. Mostly it’s just there because they like video games and as a result it comes across as awkwardly superfluous. Also, in my opinion, themed weddings, espexially those based on personal interests or hobbies run the risk making the event less classy. Sometimes they downright take the focus off the bride and groom.

            I must agree that his moustache is pretty gross. I do see your point, and I agree when it’s done in a very overt way. But I think this was much more subtle, and if you didn’t know, it’s not rubbing it in your face. Except for the explicit references to Mario and Peach. And the dude’s terrirble mo.

            My wedding was themed: Greek. By happenstance. But it was all relevant in the end, so it turned out to be a good day.

               Ever see those wedding rings that had pixelated writing on the inside of the band that said ‘it’s dangerous to go alone’? Those were beautiful. To me that’s a really good gaming reference because it means what it means regardless of gaming. My wedding was medieval themes because we were poor and it was really easy to do that theme on a budget.

            So pledging your love and commitment to your spouse, someone whom you have a deep connection with and accept wholly cannot be celebrated using something that connects you and is a combined effort in which you both acknowledge and accept the desires and wishes of the other person? I don’t know what kind of beliefs and views you have on marriage but that’s pretty much what it means when you make a vow to love someone for better or worse and to take them with all their faults and strengths as they take you with yours.

            It’s not an expression of your love for your hobby, it’s a symbol of the bond you share.

               It’s entirely possible we share different views in marriage and that’s ok. My wife and I are avid gamers and we also share other varies interests but I feel there is a time and a place for everything. I’ve mentioned here before but my main point is the video game weddings I see are just that, they’re based on video games. I think it’s off kilter to make your wedding also about video games, even if you both enjoy them. I definitely think people’s passions are reflected in their lives and it makes sense to express those, but not at the cost of the moment.

               But like I said, each to their own, I’m just presenting my opinion.
